Swap it?
No, fix the wine, the parking brake and sell the new one.

Yes, it would be easier to swap the whole thing over.

Yep got another big hunk of metal in the garage, its a 3.23 LSD from an '85 firebird, it has the aluminum drums and the parking brake cables still attached. Im trying to figure out what to with it because I have a 3.73 posi in my car, with the early style discs.
Im thinking of swaping this in because my current diff has a bit of a wine and I haven't been able to figure out how to hook the parking brake up....
-Or maybe I'll sell it to a crewbie in need of a nice posi...
Kinda looking for advise, what you guys think?

You want the 3.73 and disc over the 3.23 and drum.

Parking brake is just a matter of cables.

I swear most every set of gears whines at some point.

That is assuming that it is the gear whining, and not say the pinion bearing going south.

(not that that is what is happening...)

Do you has an LSD in there now? Mix n match and build what you want. 3.73s w/ LSD. I don't think they switched the 28spline axles until 90 or something, right?

We have pretty much narrowed it down the gears. I think that if it was bearings it would be noisey all the time and the faster you go. If I keep the one I have now, Im going to go through it when I get to drivetrain class at PCC. depending on what I can afford, I'll get a new carrier but I'll probably just get a gearset.

It does have an auburn in there now, it lights them both up in a straight line but around corners is a suprise. lol

I wouldn't give up the better gearing and disc brakes for a drum brake rear just for a limited slip. The limited slip is probably all worn out anyway.
