Figured it out. I pulled the dizzy to see if it was ok, it was. So I checked the timing, 90 degrees off with the dizzy.

She RUNS!

I now have a V8 third gen!!!

Only things it needed was a new hose for the fuel pump, starter solenoid, and the dizzy cap moved 90 degrees! Got the car for $300!

Let it run for a bit...No Codes!! I am so happy! Drink time! Sake!!

Cheers Down the hatch Rock on! Drinkin and singin Get down and Boogie!

Nicely done!

I just got my TPI swap running this weekend. I had nuked it at first and had the ignition 180 out, like I do every time. Forgot I'd turned it over to set the valve lash...

Anyways it's always fun to start up a new engine swap, especially a V8.

Oh I know! And the muffler is off, I thought it wouldn't sound so good, but it actually sounds pretty mean! Gets to 5k pretty easy with the air cleaner off (edit for typo). I about came in my pants with all the excitement of having it finally run.

The tach is almost certainly wrong.

Congrats on getting it running, nonetheless.

It's not wrong, it was a typo that i didn't catch...hit 5k with the air cleaner off.

Needs plenty of tuning. Transmission shifts kind of hard and slow. Air cleaner is too small, and the filter looks like it was thrown in mud it's so caked with dirt.

Overall, the motor runs perfectly!

If it's a 700 you don't want to drive it like that. If you don't have that TV cable just right you'll cook it but good. If it's a 350/400 check the vacuum at the modulator.

How do I adjust the tv cable? Could it be something else? The shift linkage felt loose. Both cables have plenty of slack, but I don't know how to adjust them, never worked on an automatic transmission before. The fluid level is good.

I checked the ignition timing today and it was about 8-10* ATDC. So I brought it back to 0* and it was ok, then bumped it up to 6* BTDC and now it runs MUCH better. Also, the transmission doesn't jerk as hard...could the timing being off have affected that? Confused

A TBI at 6*? seems like it would ping like hell. To adjust the TV cable, it has a metal button on the plastic piece of the linkage thats right behind your throttle. You push that button and hold it, then slowly open the throttle all the way, should hear it click if I remember right.

Yeah, it was at 0* for a bit, but the chilton's I have says it's supposed to be at 6*, so I set to that and it ran even better. I might back it down to 3-4* to be safe.

TBI is 0º.

You need the TV cable for a TBI and NOT for TPI. They are different length setups.

You push the metal button and slide the sheethe back toward the button till it stops. Then you let go of the button, and work the throttle to WOT. It will ratchet out to the appropriate spot.
