So I built a new air intake, kind of like a cold air intake.

I had the Mass Air Flow Sensor off for like 2 days while I was working on it and naturally, the check engine light was on.

I put it all together today and unplugged the battery to make the check engine light go off, but on the way home from work it came back on.

So my question is, is that since it gets a lot more air now easily, would that make the check engine light come on??

Are you sure it is still the MAF code that the computer is throwing?

What kind of filter did you install?

Where is the maf located at? Up near filter, mid way, back by engine.

Also, are you sure their are no air leaks after the maf?

It is located midway
And it is not glued yet, so I guess there could be a leak but it acts as if the maf is totally unplugged

I also could not get the error code, idk why so I will try again when I get off

Couple of things come to mind without knowing the codes:

1) You have to leave the battery unhooked for awhile to clear the stored codes. I usually leave it for five minutes as a rule of thumb, but a lot of guys leave it longer.

2) Jay touched on this, but I'll clarify. If you installed a shiny new K&N wet with oil, and bombed off down the road, all of the oil will get sucked into your MAF and can foul it.

Ok code 34 which is "low voltage (high vacuum) at mass air flow sensor"....

too little resistance??

And bombed down the road, it worked fine till I tryed the freeway and stomped on the gas, then it kind of lost power for a second and the light came on.

How would I go about cleaning a maf??

Electronic parts cleaner. Take it out of the car, spray it out from both sides, rinse and repeat. Also make sure the plug is in and snug.

Auto Parts stores sell "MAF cleaners" those are very expensive sensors so you want to be very careful cleaning it.

Maybe make it so it's not offset at the throttle body. Reducing any turbulence is helpful. Maybe minor in this case, but helpful nonetheless.

It is like that because the rubber hose thingy is too long, any ideas on something else I could use to connect the PVC pipe to the throttle body??

Can't confirm, but I've heard either a 3" or 3.5" silicon coupler will oval out to the right size to clamp on to the TB. Not sure on the size, but one of those is what I remember.

So if you got for instance a 3.5" to 3" coupler (or whatever size your PVC is) it should work. Just experiment with the sizes, cause I'm not sure what sizes you'll need.

Code:

Holy zipties batman.

Get some couplers and clamps for that thing.

If you haven't glued up the ABS yet (it's not PVC) go back to Depot and buy a short 90*, looks like a long one in the pics. They should be able to sell you one that has the two bells almost touching each other. That will fix your length problem. Wink

That tiny tiny wire which if I remember right is pretty important is broken.
I was going to try to solder it but then the pliers got stuck and broke it again.

And I just spent $6.99 on "MAF CLEANER"
