Well today I took my sisters bronco to go get a couple tires for the rear cause they had no tread what so ever, Im talking smooth tires . So we went to the discount tire up the street and they didnt have the tires that where on the truck. Which were 32x11.50r15 wildcats wich have probley been on the truck for since the late 90s . So we went with the BF Goodrich All Terrain T/A KO tires, but then the people tell me that we need to replace the front ones soon with the same tires or if we use 4x4 it will mess up the transmission . I don't know if its just me but that makes to senses cause they are the same size and every thing, just different tread pattern I don't see how that could affect the transmission, I just figure they want me to replace the front ones just for more money. I mean Im not to worried because the fronts aren't to far behind the rears and need to go asap but we could only afford the rear at the moment I just thought it was strange. _________________

Transfer case. not the trans. Everything is fine till you shift into 4wd on a grippy surface.
Don't buy truck tires from a tire store. Jump on craigslist. Truck tires abound. Get ones already mounted on 15" 5x5.5" Furd/Dodge wheels and you wont even have to have them mounted.
Hell, I just sold a full set on CL like two weeks ago. |

The term is called drive line windup....... the front drive line will be rotating at a different RPM then the rear and can cause lots of problems with the transfer case. Just keep it in 2WD until you get some fronts as well. _________________

ya thats what i told my sister to do but she wanted new tires and all the wheels i found on cl she didnt like the look of so she just wanted to go to a store and keep her stock wheels but what ever its her money. i just thought it was odd them talking about frying the transmission because of tires . they guy said theses exact words "you need to get some new tires on the front to because if you use your 4x4 with different tires it will destroy the transmission" i just didn't get that. the transfer case makes alot more since than the transmission tho.

ok ya that makes since and ya it will stay in 2wheel till we get new ones the truck dosent see to much off road (unless we go looking for it ) and with summer coming we shouldn't need 4wheel ( not like we needed it this winter anyway ) but new tires are coming in the next month or 2 so it should be fine _________________

If it's a fairly well-optioned Bronco, you won't need to worry about it at all. Rarely-used Ford automatic hubs tend to not lock for anything.
