IT RUNS! Just finished breakin tonight. Started instantly, no overheating, 65psi of oil pressure, no oil leaks, but... I have a soft plug on the back of the passenger head pissing at the firewall. Sad I'll see if I can lever it in further. I even used permatex #1 on it. I guess if all else fails I'll try a rubber plug.

The cam sounds smaller then I expected. It's a summit cam with 282/292 advertised, 224/234 @ 0.050. The stock 2" dual exhaust doesnt sound too bad though. Bit raspy. It'll have to go at some point.. too small.

Last problem.. theres a whole lot more compression then the old motor. Old 400 was a tired 7.9:1... new motor is a fresh 9.8:1.. the stock starter just won't turn her over. Barely does cold. So looks like time for a mini.

Anyway, here's a little vid.

Might try the Permatex #2 next time. Seems alot stronger than the #1 on that kinda stuff.

Used #1 because its supposed to harden and hold kind of like locktite. Usually afraid the #2 being pliable would allow the soft plugs to move. You're really not supposed to need anything. Shrug The heads had sat quite awhile without the plugs in them though. Bit of rusting had happened.

I am, PC audio system anyway Smile A good subwoofer can make almost any exhaust recording sound good.

Most of the sound problem is with the chincy mic's they incorporate into cameras. The recording sounded closest to real when I was walking along side the car, from the rear it was clipping.

Well I was able to lever that soft plug in a bit further and the leak seems to be sealed! Not a drop so far.. but i'm betting i'll be the one to wet down steve's dyno and piss him off. Laughing Needless to say some stopleak will be going in.

Also there's a huge exhaust leak somewhere.. sounds almost like muffler.. sounds awful anyway. That exhaust will have to go soon. The motor itself seems to have quieted down a whole lot, which is good. Got it all dialed in tonight. Tomorrow I'll drop the breakin oil and install new battery cables and a mini starter. Hopefully that will cure the hotstart blues.

Need to get this on the road pronto. Get some shakedown runs in. I know I've still got some electrical gremlins in the dashboard to chase too.
