Who's it got this year? Even though I haven't decided to put my car on the rollers, or even which car to bring, my 89 sort of broke down this morning.
While waiting for our driver at the Park-n-Ride where we meet, I noticed some liquid meandering from under the car, but was still too dark to see where it was coming from. My first guess was water pump. On the way home, I let it get up to temperature, then pulled off into a service station and opened the hood to find water slinging off the water pump pulley. I suppose the shaft seal is shot.
I've always wondered when it might go. It looks to be original as does the timing cover, even after 200,000 miles Looks like part of a long vacation weekend will be spent under the car _________________ 92 Camaro

Well as of right now the Camaro has oil pressure AND runs through the gears without a hitch from the motor.
Mazda seems to be working well with the new header/modified intake.
We shall see. I think money will be my curse. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

I hear Paul on the money thing. Barring anything drastic I think i'm good to go. But I've got alot of small things to fix, and you know how that is.. all it takes is time and money!
No leaks or anything under the car tonight. Still holding good oil pressure and running cool... fingers are crossed! |

I have nothing wrong so far but I'm crossing my fingers, knocking on wood and praying. _________________

No job soon enough...firebird is grounded.
I probably will make it in my Camaro, but doubt I will run it on the dyno. |

| New pump is in. Waiting now for the RTV to set up on the gaskets. There was nothing left of the seal on the old one the way it sounded when I spun the shaft. |

I didn't use a whole lot of it. Maybe a little more than necessary to hold the gaskets in place while installing the pump. I used that black stuff in the cheese whiz can, applying the most at the outside edge of the gasket and around the bolt holes |

Myself, I usually glue the gasket to the pump, then use a thin layer between the gasket and the engine. That way when I go to remove it the gasket stays with the old pump and its easier for me to clean.
90% of the gaskets on an engine should be either just glued on, or put on dry. The only normal places for the stuff in a tube is the china walls, and anywhere where 2 gaskets meet. Or if something is pitted really bad. I think Paul's shock smiley is because as a mechanic we see lots of do it yourselfers using tons of goo where they shouldnt be using any.

Pffft. If a thin layer is good, then a thick layer is great, right? ...Right? _________________

I had a nightmare about dyno curse last night. It was horrible. Everything kept going wrong.
Been daily driving the Camaro for a week or two to flush out any bugs before the big weekend, and it's been running flawlessly so far... *knock on wood* _________________ 84 Camaro Z28 - LS1/T56
