Well this weekend to my t/a to idaho and back to see my kids, was a fun shakedown to know what i need to fix ! lol
1) vibration at 70 mph need new u-jonts

2)taller rear tires! 245-17,s suck ass on the freeway turns 2200 rpm at 60 mph

3) get rid of the cheezy ass stock exaust cat smells bad anyway under load

4) better seats my back and ass where killing me after about 100 miles.

other wise got good mpg and didnt miss a beat , i put over 1,000 miles on it. Very Happy

The driveshaft vibration could be the shaft itself. The one in my IROC lost it's balance when the previous owner had it. LS1 aluminum shaft fixed that problem right up.

I changed the U-joints in my driveshaft and after that it always shook. GM cheaped out on the driveshafts, the u-joints are put in and centered with injected plastic. So when you put a real u-joint in with clips the shaft may not be centered. Installed a used shaft and my high speed vibration went away.

Ironic. I took my bird for it's first mini road trip last weekend as well. Only to Yakima though, for some snow mobile fun. Avg 28mpg @ 75-80.

I concur with the drive shaft comments. You could take it down to Drivelines NW and have them spin balance it with new joints. I think I remember them doing it high speed?

Nicejob on the trip! A successful road trip with a thirdgen is always a nice feeling.

Hehe my motor doesn't like anything below about 2000rpms LOL.

it's not the 17s or the 245... what's your sidewall series? If you're still close to stock diameter, what do you have for butt gears?!

tires are 245/45/17 with 3.73 ratio i think the tires changed the ratios to like 4.10 lol they are low profiles. i looked at stock tires and they look to be about 2 inches taller lol. Confused

Stock 16" on our cars is 245/50R16 which is a 25.65" Diameter tire.

245/45R17 is a 25.68" tall tire.

No change to output! Cool

That's the same tire size and rear gear I have in my 89. At 70mph, my tach reads on the line between 2200 and 2500, so 2250 or so. Also, my speedo reads a tad high, about 5% as I chose the wrong driven gear (20 tooth instead of 21) when the 3.73 went in.

Yup. Need the right speedo gears for the tire size/rear end ratio.
