Smog pump wont throw codes. EGR usually doesn't throw codes till you drive around for awhile.
Out of curiosity, if you unhook the battery and wipe the codes, then hook it back up, does the light come on immediately? |

| Have you jumped the ALDL, or are you using a scan tool? |

ya, that sounds better, right now you have a light with no real problems, with the ford you would have lots of problems, and no light _________________

Hehe... "new electronic cars". That car was made the year I was born, dude. It's ancient technology.
Check for vacuum leaks, check for unplugged connectors, set the idle stop screw if the tamper-plug is out of it. |

30 years of experience? POS? Stuck with fords? Why did you buy the car?
Sorry, had to ask. Anywho, yeah, check for vacuum leaks. Adjust the idle screw...no codes? You're using the right scan tool?

How high is the idle in neutral?
Also what what the process you used to adjust the IAC? Have you ruled out a possible vacuum leak? The electonics are nice and all, but adjusting them around a mechanical problem, will always end in frustration. I would do some old school checks, and make sure you don't have a vacuum leak. |

idle= about 800 to 1000 rpm in neutral, in drive about 650 should be 500 cant lower any more. i bought this car because i love transams , was always a ford guy but now in converted im gonna pull off upper intake and check egr for leaks and spray around intake for leaks. i adjusted iac valve per instructions in package. also tried adjusting per haynes manual still light is on and NO codes. maybe ill just put a damm carb on it lol.and pull off all emissions, go old school. _________________ 86 t/a 305 tpi 700r4 3.73 possi 4 wheel disc

Vacuum leak with MAF causes run bad, typically not a high idle.
You need to reset the TPS when you adjust the IAC.

Follow those instructions. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

Do you have the defrost on? I am pretty sure whenever the AC compressor is running, it clicks the target idle speed up a little.
Since I have a 5-speed car, I don't know your idle targets, my computer calls for 625 rpm w/o AC, and 675rpm with AC. I don't have a in gear target, but those are the idle speeds my car was programed with. |

Don't know about the engine light, but I've had a coolant temp sender cause a high idle without setting a code. My idle at the time was 1000-1500 after the engine was at operating temperature, should have been 800 or so (V6 5-speed). _________________ 92 Camaro

Bad temp sender will also cause a massive rich condition. Check your plugs dude, if they're black Al might be on to something. |

| Out of curiosity, have you read the plugs? That could eliminate lean/rich or vacuum issues. |

Burnouts and WOT performance don't really mean a lot in my experience, as the ECM is ignoring a lot of stuff at that point.
I'm surprised it's not running rich. Usually running with the SES lit (and thus in open loop) = gas mileage in the crapper. |
