I just can't tell. My buddy picked this up for his WS6 not long ago. Its a .57 Trim Garrett (Similar to that of a 3071R)

On the exhaust side of the turbo, it appears the shaft has been grinded down a bit. I assume this is for balancing. Is this something Garrett does? Is this something the previous owner did? Turbo is brand new, never spooled/mounted.

That's gotta be from the factory for balancing. I doubt many people have the skills or equipment to balance something at 80,000 rpms. Laughing

That's what I'm trying to get at. I cant tell if someone just F'd with it for the hell of it, or if its balanced by Garrett themselves.

Contact Garrett.

I've only seen a dozen or so up close, but even my turbo doesn't have any grinding. It's an Air-Research.

The AR/Garrett I picked up for Steves scoobaru years ago had the shaft ground on, figured it was normal for balancing...
