Hey all,

So i finally decided to follow Al's recommendations and bought a can of nightshades and smoked out my tail lights and front markers. Stuff was a pain to use but eventually got it figured out. here are the results.

Smoke or get clear amber side markers!

Otherwise looks good!

what made it hard to use? i have had the blacked out lenses before, but was thinking going this route. but im a bit worried i might ruin perfectly good set of tail lights.

For me, the stuff likes to crack in the drying process. A trick I learned when building plastic models works really well. Clean the lenses extremely well, then get your can of paint warm (hot water works well), and if you can, get the lens surface up to temperature also, I used a space heater. I also found a plastic adhesion promoter, which is a clear primer that seemed to help (found it at NAPA).

It was all in the prep work. That's why it cracked (like spiderweb) on me the first time or two. Get the lenses really clean before spraying them.

yeah that was it. I focused on painting very thin coats. if i made more than to short passes, it would crack while drying. after that i used some buffing and polishing compound on em to shine them up Smile i'll get some pics when its sunny down here soon.

those single line tail lights look ten times better when they're smoked or blacked out. Looking really good. I never had a problem with the tiny spiderweb cracking when did mine, I took my time, thoroughly cleaned the lenses and made many very light coats.
