Yup, headers for my T/A!!! They are Flowtechs from Summit and I got the Y pipe too! All-in-all I am happy with their quality except for the oxygen sensor port. The bung was there, but we had to drill the hole for the sensor. TJ and I had little trouble installing them. I'm totally stoked! My Trans Am is one step closer to being done!!! Cool

Man, it looks like the collector dumps onto the front engine cradle? The Y pipe must have a drastic bend to it.

Nice, John. Looks like the local guys are finally getting some work done. Now I'm starting to look bad. Embarassed

Lots of people dump on the FlowTechs for being the made-in-China Schmucks brand, but I ran them on my IROC for years without any major problems. There are a couple of things I found:

The flange material is fairly thin, and will warp. If you run them with an exhaust leak (like I did) they will warp further. RemFlex gaskets seem to take care of that pretty quick though.

The welds on the collector, especially inside the collector, tend to fail. So if all your gaskets are good, but you still have a leak, take a look down there. Takes two seconds to reweld it though.

I don't know if they changed the Y-pipe design, but mine was similar to stock in that it was less of a Y-pipe, and more of a T-pipe, which screws up flow.

Good deal John. I saw your comment on T/A in the other thread and realized I must have missed something.... like you having a T/A Laughing

What are the plans for this one?

Yeah, I picked up an '86 Trans Am last year for $900. Didn't have an engine but came with lots of extra parts. The interior is close to perfect and it has a newly rebuilt 700R4. I now have Ian's former 305 with the LT1 cam in it as well. Can't wait to get her on the road! Very Happy

Flowtech has come a long way in their quality. Starting to surpass Hedman I think.

They look good as far as design. How's plug access? Hookers are decent, Hedmans rock, always heard Edelbrocks suck.

Number 8 is a b***h to get to, the tube makes its bend right over the plug.

Best trick I've found is to grind down a spark plug socket till it's as short as can be and still grab the hex. Then use the 3/4" box wrench to turn it.

Sweeeeeeeet. Very Happy It'll be cool to see that motor running again. Did you guys do the valve seals yet?

FYI, I'd second the remflex gaskets.

Felpro makes pretty decent gaskets now too. Cheaper than the rem iirc.

Maybe I'm wrong but I thought the rems were only 10-15? Aaron, what did Randy charge you last time?

I got quoted like $35 for a set of those? Maybe I have to research again!

$17 for Small Chebbie, $35 for big Furd, or somewhere along those lines. That's with the CC discount though. Retail they're about 40% more than that.

+1, that trick has saved me a couple of times. On my Flowtechs you could snag all the plugs with a normal (not ground) socket, but you had to use the 3/4" wrench trick on about three of them.

Not yet and I forgot to get those valve spring from you. BTW, found something interesting when we were getting ready to put the intake on. I just happened to look down one of the intake ports on the passenger side head, don't know why, and saw what looked like a 1" long bolt just chilling down there. I stuck a telescoping magnet in and sure enough pulled out a loose bolt! Whatcha trying to do to me man?! Very Happy

Yikes!! Good thing you found that!

Tony and I tried doing the same thing to Al when we were helping out with his v6 swap awhile ago. Embarassed

Ah yes, of course I forgot about the CC discount. I think I'm going to try stocking a small line of the remflex stuff.

Don't you usually keep at least the SBC and 3" flange in stock?

Not since Titus-Will took over. Bruce Titus took out all the aftermarket stuff and now I've got to reorder it all.
