Is an EGR valve on a TPI engine supposed to hold a vacum? I'm trying to test mine but it won't hold a vacum with my mity vac pump. |

B whill chime in but I think it should. It opens the airway to allow the gases to cross over. If it lets air past the valve itself, it's not going to pull up with the vacuum to open properly. Though I think it's a bigger problem if its STUCK open. |

Well I'm having the same problem again, and with the EGR temp sensor disconnected. So, tried pulling a vacum on the EGR valve and it won't hold at all. I've just finished tonight after work pulling the plenum and EGR valve. The valve isn't stuck, but am replacing it and the temp sensor just because I'm tired of dealing with this same problem. Both the EGR valve and temp sensor only have 7k miles on them, and are AC delco parts. I'm very surprised they went out so quickly. Was a major waste of money to go with AC Delco and not generic parts instead.
If this doesn't cure it at least I'll be pretty sure they aren't the cause of the problem. |

What temp sensor are you talking about? Temp sensors usually don't go out that often. There is a cold start switch, a Manifold Air Temp sensor and a Coolant Temp Sensor...... Two in the front of the intake, and the MAT on the underside of the plenum.
Check the new EGR valve to see if it holds vacuum? Maybe the EGR solenoid is bad and stuck open keeping the egr open? |

The EGR valve has a temp sensor screwed into it, and when I disconnected it the problem went away for awhile, now has started again. So am replacing both since there is no code 32 thrown. I need to eliminate any chance of these two components being the problem.
And I disconnected the EGR vac line and the problem was still there. So I'm thinking maybe the valve isn't closing all the way. The EGR ports seem to be clear and open when I looked after pulling the valve. |
