Well since I don't remember your last post, or if I was supposed to be mad at you, I'll throw my two cents in. Laughing

Is it a drag project? Cruiser? More info on usage would help.

If the 400 is a working 2wd tranny, I would go with that.

Gears are 100% personal choice, but remember that compromise sucks. I run 3.50's behind my C6 with (IIRC) 29" tires, and it's a touch high off the line, and way too low on the freeway.

just want a cruiser mostly..later down the road i'm going to either rebuild, or buy a new motor with a little more get up and go.

That might be a 10 bolt rear end, but it's larger than the ones in our F-bodies. We have a 7.5/7.625 inch rear, and doing some research, that era Chevelle has an 8.2 inch rear. You should be able to find some nice gears for it. I have a set of 3.73 gears almost ready to install into my 89 and maybe wake it up a bit Cool

If you're going cheap, just throw the 400 in, find a complete 10-bolt on CL, and drive it.

I'm with stupid
Get whatever you can get ahold of to make it drivable, it might be less work if you find a whole complete rearend thats ready to go in, just something to think about..
But just get it to run and drive then eventually you'll want some more power. Very Happy
