Cat makes a 15.8 liter truck engine that makes something like 1850 ft lbs of torque. That giant engine there makes twice the ft lbs of torque per liter. That is impressive.  |

For some reason I think that starter has more torque than my car. |

Apparently so. Some smaller shipboard diesel generators are started with high pressure air. I think they get them spinning before they introduce the fuel - but I may be wrong  |

| I wonder if the starter is a large diesel. Some old cat engines were started with a gasoline pup engine. You started the gas engine, then engaged the clutch to the diesel engine. You then got it spinning with a compression release like Al said. Once its spinning good you closed the compression release and the diesel took off on its own. |
