Any progress? This is how I got my rear ebrake cables to work as well. I used the whole 4th gen setup. Cables, handle, brakes. I assume you are keeping your stock ebrake handle? I wouldn't recommend it. Not very good for ebrake slides since it's a ratcheting spring loader in the handle to take up slack Sad So there is no nut adapter piece under the car to adjust.

I had to put the project aside until the weekend. I have everything I need for the e-brake, including the 4th gen lever. I have yet to figure out how to remove thehandle from the lever so I can get it into my console, it looks to be rivited on where a set screw would normally be. This weekend, Ill be dropping the driveline and torque arm so I have room to work up in the tunnel and put the bracket up (temporary bolt in, then weld later).

My next day off, Friday the 12th, I'll take the morning and go to Belfair Hose and have my flex lines made up. I already called them to see if they'll do it, but no price yet. Probably well worth the money to get it done right.

Is your handle spring loaded? Mine was a huge pain to get in.

Yup, something to look forward to. It's got the spring loaded tension adjuster with a ratchet.

Got the e-brake in and working. Pretty simple actually, moving stuff out of the way was the hardest and most time consuming.

Here's where I removed the front part of the old bracket - I neglected to take a picture before I ground it down.

And a wider shot which shows the rear cable guides, not quite in focus, but identifiable. This is how I left it when I installed the new LS1 bracket.

The LS1 bracket bolted in place. I'll probably have it welded in later, but it's not moving anywhere soon like this.

New handle.

Unlike Dan, I didn't have to trim any coils from the springs at the wheel end of the cables, but I may once I get the car on the ground and test the brake with the weight of the car.

Looks good Al.

The only thing I did different mounting the 4th gen bracket was that I used flat head allen bolts. The cable spreader bar hit the bolt heads so I went to the flat head ones and problem solved.

You also may find that your console might not sit all the way down after installing the 4th gen handle. Let me know if that happens and I can tell you what I did to fix it.

Cool!

I wish I had more time to hit a JY and find one of those brackets.

Well they are on ALL 4th gens, so pretty easy to find.

The console fit back in really good. Only problem I had was the slot for the handle wasn't wide enough (the grip is riveted on so it doesn't come off). I was able to persuade it in though and after squeezing by the grip, the rest was cake.

I'm glad everything went so well for you. I had to modify the return spring bracket to clear my console.

I look back on this and there are so many threads on TGO asking how to make the LS1 ebrake work. If they took 5 mins to think it out they would find out just how easy it really is.

Thank you Dan. I'm done now for this weekend, I have other things I need to do tomorrow - cut the grass. Next Friday I'm taking a trip down the road to Belfair Hose to see about getting some braided flex lines made, then hopefully on Memorial Day weekend, it'll be on the road.

A little more progress today. I have new flex lines made and test fitted them (except for the axle T-block which I know fits). Belfair Hose is a great little operation, they have just enough customer flow to keep two guys busy and turn out product while you wait.

One flex line with 90* fitting and adapter to brake line, flex hose is 6", anything less didn't have much room to bend.

Axle T-block

One side test fitted. You can see the brake line male flare nut (which I need to flare onto the brake line) at the bracket where the brake line connects.

Everything was done so I could use my existing hard lines. All I need to do now is cut them to length and flare the nut onto the end.

That's a funky hose. Lol. How many pieces did they end up using?

Only 2 pieces more than what the flex line used. The 90* fitting and the piece that fits in the bracket and adapts to the hard line. They're very similar to Dan's flex lines, matter of fact, they were made using the picture Dan posted of his.

Finished up this morning. Used the stock lines, cut them to length and flared the correct fitting on the end. Filled the system and bled the air out and took her for a test drive. I like the drum parking brake back there - I lifted up on the handle at 30 mph and locked up the rear wheels Very Happy try that with normal disc brakes Laughing

On an unrelated note, sometime between the last time I parked the car and test drove it today, my cooling fan motor died. My switch on the block is shorted so it provides a constant ground for the fan and it should run constantly with the key on. I checked the harness with the key on and have 12V across the pins. I found another motor at the JY to use temporarily from an Olds Achieva and paid the guy $10 for it. I plugged the new motor into my harness and it fired right up, so it goes in shortly.

Ain't that little drum brake amazing? But me as a "responsible" adult driver would never try doing what you did with them Wink

Glad it all came together so well for you Al.

Nope, Alloy would make sure the car is capable of doing a 180* e-brake turn, before he would consider it tested. Wink
