Has anyone put a mechanical/vacuum advance coil-on-cap distributor on their TPI cars? I'm trying to get my 454 dizzy hooked up to the stock computer so I can data log rpm. Mine is pointless (literally, not figuratively) and judging by the diagrams between the HEI 5.0L and the 5.0L non HEI I can tap into one of the 3 wires that come out of the pickup module. Anyone done this?

The diagrams seem to point that the Dist Hi Ref is a 12V pulsed signal to the computer. Seems like I should be able to tie into the coil control wire with a resistor or zener diode to make sure I don't mess up the ecm (flyback voltages are not nice).

I think the coil in cap dizzys are to physically big to fit behind a TPI motor. But that is mute for you since your BBC-carb.

I did help put a coil-cap setup in a boat a few years ago. 4 wires to hook up and away we went.

Using my Chevy Power book (GM #24502488) the center engine mounting bolt on the sbc is 15.05" from the rear pin deal and the bbc is 14.93" from the rear pin deal. So they are essentially the same distance from the firewall.

I know ideally I should just get a cc hei distributor. But the gains would be neglagent at this point. Maybe after I get the fuel injection going.
