After hearing the cost of MAF's have gone up significantly, would anyone be interested in a translater box that would allow you to run whatever MAF you want? As far as I know, GM is the only company that uses frequency output MAF's, everyone else seems to use voltage out. As long as the output is linear it would be pretty cake to make an analog converter box so you can run cheaper MAF's. I'd even leave a user trim pot in there so you can tweek it if need be. Anyone?

Cost of mafs went up? Crap. All mine got stolen back in july and I'm wanting to try and go back to a maf when I build an intake. ARG!!

My scanner always showed maf voltage. Even the tables in tunerpro are voltage vs grams per sec. Not frequency.

Maybe it was just for my V6. Either way you'd need a converter to rescale the output if you get a larger MAF. Hopefully you could find one the same size so you maintain the resolution at idle.

So it would be a really easy voltage scaler for anyone who wants it. Looks like a lot of Maf's out there are voltage out put. As long as you get one that's close to size of a stock V8 MAF there might be only a small trim to accomplish to make it work exactly like stock. Or you could go bigger to offer less of a restriction and then scale it down a smidge. To fully take advantage of the larger MAF you'd have to redo your fuel tables. But if all you want is a stock replacement my idea might save you some cash.

The TPI GM stuff only reads to 255 gm/sec. After that it's strictly in the power enrichment table and it doesn't look at the MAF.

What would be a good maf to go to? Any suggestions? If we pick an '02 camaro MAF from DELPHI (Part # AF10044) I'm sure I can make it work. $144 including the core charge. Picture below. That's much cheaper than the $507 for the ACDelco '89 MAF. (all prices from RockAuto for comparison only). Even the cheap '89 Maf is $213. If it was possible to put this in your car, would you?

Autozone sells remanufactured ones under $100. I know for the 87 2.8 it's $71.99 + $10 core charge.

You are correct. The V6 is cheap. The V8 FI is $169 + $80 core. So if you could upgrade to the newer cheaper MAF on your V8, would you?

How much is the core charge on the newer style one? That will have to be figured into the price since there won't be an old one to return. Doh, just re read your post. Laughing

Personally on my TPI car I wouldn't mess with it. Buying a new one should be a one time thing that lasts for years. Or find a used one.

Yeah but the V6 MAFs are super cheap.

I'm with Rodney. I wouldn't spend any extra over one I could get factory.

Especially since I know a factory MAF is large enough to run 12's N/A and 11's on juice.

My stock MAf made it 21 years. It would be nice to upgrade to something that will be avaiable in another ten years. Biddle Chevy told me the MAF for my 87 IROC retailed for 1400.00, lowest they could go was 900.00. I am sure that once the cores start running out the remanufactured price will go up quickly.

If you upgrade it will be much cheaper. that's what I'm saying. The V6 film maf's are the exception. They are cheaper than the wire maf's on the V8 cars.
