Cool site there! I heard little mentions of it, but expected the media to play it up alot more. They are too busy talking about Kerry/Bush, Martha Stewart and the latest movie releases to mention news that might make ya think a little bit. There was a huge free "Space Day" display at OMSI on the weekend complete with a free public star party, but I don't think that got any coverage.

For example, right now on MSNBC.com you have to look past a couple pages of political posturing, more Martha crap, over a dozen links to "Catwoman" or Halle Berry stuff, before you find links to these important new discoveries:
Ammonia on Mars could mean life
Key genetic differences among people revealed
Intelligence linked to size of key brain regions
Evidence revealed for creation of elusive matter

Those are some incredible discoveries! There's also coverage of important events like these:
All systems go for new private spaceflight law
First private space flight a success
Rovers to get extra time on Mars

These stories often require use of brain power to fully grasp, maybe that is why they don't give them the attention. Who knows. Shrug

I guess it isn't on the forefront anymore. We aren't exactly involved in the 'space race' and it no longer servers the purpose to keep people excited about the USA. its amazing how fast thing change, i can remeber watching every space launch live in our classroom in school (and i am NOT that old.) including the challanger. I am just really disapointed the something as big as the 35th aniversery of us landing on the moon, could go almost un-noticed.

There is a line in Apollo 13 about how the American Public thinks going to the moon is routine, and boring.

Then right after something bad happens everyone wants to know what happend. We just have a really macabre approach to culture I suppose. Or people are just to stupid these days to swallow astronomy/cosmology, it is much easier to watch Halle Barry dressed in leather.

Oh well... their loss.
