So what are the hot and not so hot tires in the ol 245/50R16 field these days?
Need something pretty sticky since the Maro is mostly a fair weather car. But I'm not looking to spend $250 a tire!
So far I'm looking at these:
Goodyear Eagle F1 G2-D3
Yokohama AVS ES100
So far the yoko is way cheaper and has a wider tread pattern. Tread design looks about the same. |

| i run a 275/40/17 mickey thompson E.T. Street radial on my 98' Z28. the car runs 12.9's all day long with no traction issues, and they still stay planted pretty firm in the rain. i had a set on my nova also and they lasted just as long as my toyo T1R's did. i work at baxters, and they're like $190 a piece i think. |

| I'd like the chance to run the Goodyear Eagles myself. If I can find a set of 17x10's that I like on my camaro I'd like to get rid of my black GTA 16x8's. I have some Hankook tires for them when my Ohtsu's wear down enough (in the size you are after). |

Ive been looking at hankook ventus R-S2 as its a high performance summer tire in a 245/r16, and it wont break the bank. im running Kumho ASX's now their an great tire for the money! i beat the hell out of them, theyve held up well, and they grip well in the rain, i even ran them in snow, when i got dumped on coming home from a winter autoX, they got me home in one piece, i had to change my pants though _________________ 1991 Firebird L03 T-5 |

I've been extremely happy with my bridgestone potenzas. Great grip compared to the pirellis i took off. So much so it took the fun out of the car. They seem to be wearing very well too. Wet traction is ok but the pirellis were better. I've also run 2 different set of coopers. The Z rated cooper sucked. Traction was bad, and they wore out in 20k miles. The cheaper H rated I think cooper was awesome. Very sticky and ran for 40k miles. The set of yokohama's I ran were just so/so and again about a 40k mile tire. I've got a set of yoko's on the truck right now and they're great though. Even snow traction is good on a 275/60/15. I think i've ran one other set on the car, but cant remember what they were.
I'd rank all these this way.
1. Potenza
2. Cheap cooper
3. Pirellis
4. Yokohama
5. Z rated cooper |

I don't really understand everyone gushing over Kumho's wet traction. Dry is fine, but wet is a cruel joke. I can be rolling along in fourth gear, step on it, and immediatly kick the rear out anytime it's so much as sprinkling. I know the rear suspension in the IROC isn't the greatest, but still. |

| I have been pretty happy with the Falkens I have now, and the Hankook Ventus sports that I had before. I don't know if either of them are available in 16" sizes though. |

I understand that, but I still don't understand how people make claims about Kumho like "Wet traction is nearly as good as dry!" and whatever.
Pretty soon I'm not gonna be super worried about bad weather driving in the IROC anymore. That's what Ian's old Blazer is for. |

| I'm with you aaron. I like to stick to the pavement when it is wet. I havent driven kuhmo's, so I cant comment on them. The hankooks I had were OK, but not great in the rain, but they were better than a lot of other tires. The Falkens I have on now, have done great in the rain the couple of times I have driven in it. I was actualy really impressed with the wet grip. |

Irony. I chose the Kumhos over the Falkens because I heard such good things about their wet handling. Once the IROC gets off of daily-driver duty they'll be fine though. They actually launch pretty good on dry pavement for such a cheap tire. |

| It all comes down to the model though, the Kuhmo 711s are not in the same range as the 712 is. Same with falken tires, they ahve so many different models, I can only speak for the ones I have. |

Nitto NT455's wet traction is a joke. they are as bad as a worn non-performance tire. that said... my rears are now down to about 20% and the dry traction is still good. i have to TRY to break traction, it does not happen by accident.
cooper cobras can suck it. |

I have Goodyear eagles for daily drivers. They suck inless you plan to do alot of burnouts.
For racing (which I hardly do anymore) I have Firestone SZ50ep's, bought used and down to tread bars. Noticeibly more grip over the eagles.
On my show truck, I use to run mid-grade nittos(forget number). All around decent for the buck. _________________ 2008 GMC Z71
