So i have upgraded my base model 91 LO3 bird with every WS6 suspension part apart from the springs, and steering box. i have 16" wheels with 245 rubber all the way around. and was looking to upgrade to the quick ratio steering box, thinking that it would make the steering a bit heavier (a little more effort to turn/more feedback) and shorten up the turns from 2.75 lock to 2.25. from searching TGO i found that there are many opinions on how to identify the quick ratio box and from what i gathered from the people who posted on there, the only definitive way to know for sure that it is a real quick ratio box would be that the car would have had to come with 16" wheels from the factory. another poster stated that the only difference is between the base models box and the ones that came on cars with 16" wheels is that the stops are different, it does not affect the effort to turn the wheel or feed back. This is my first thirdgen, and have not had a chance to drive different models with the two steering boxes to really judge if what i read was really true. anyone have some info? id appreciate it. _________________ 1991 Firebird L03 T-5 |

I asked someone the same thing and I think the answer was that the newer (86+) all got the quick steering box with highest turn ratio. Cause when I put my 16x8" wheels on my 86 chassis I had no rub problems at all. _________________ E30

I ahve two birds
One with a quick ratio box 92 formula. Its diffently different feel on the steering more responsive.
Have another with a regular box orginally had 15 in rims v6 had a diffent feel. Have run 16 in rims on both.
BTW if your running 16 in rims or to be honest and tires get a wonder bar and a strut tower brace. Makes a big differnece in steering and handling. Both of my cars have them. Could tell the diffrence right away.
IN my opinion all third gens should have had the wonder bar installed. not just the iroc. Keeps your frame from cracking aroudn the gear box. _________________ kurfbird
