Started up the camaro a couple of days ago and it really struggled. Then it did start, I drove it around the block then parked it and turned it off. Went to restart it, nothing. I checked the battery connection and it was tight and all of my accessories work. I'm thinking either my neutral safety switch (it moves around when i depress the clutch...might be broken) or my starter died. Any ideas?

How long did it sit? Did you check the voltage at the battery, it may be that you just don't have enough juice to start it up at all. Just as a check, maybe try to jump start it, and see if it works, if it does, that you know the battery is the culprit.

the battery had 12.83 volts, but I can try to jump it and see what happens
i keep the battery disconnected, but i hadn't started it in 3 weeks. i do notice if i start it every couple of days, it does better, but i had a cover on it and didn't want to deal with it...lol.

He keeps it disconnected 'cause there is an electrical drain that we haven't found yet and since its not a daily driver this tends to kill the battery. I still think its the negative connection at the battery or the block. I've had this problem before.

tried jumpstarting it, then rocking it back n forth (in case the starter pinion was stuck)...wires look good, but i will need to further check. I'm still thinking it's my neutral safety switch (it's a piece of crap as it won't stay in position) or ultimately, the starter...i'll keep tinkering until i figure something out Sad

If I come over there and it turns out to be a loose negative battery cable I'm gonna put my foot in your ass! Laughing

If you took the surface charge off the battery (just turn on a light for a minute) and the open circuit voltage is 12.83 V then the battery is at 100% state of charge. Battery is fully charged.

turned out to be a combination of problems, so the starter has been replaced and the safety neutral switch has been bypassed. Thanks to John (RSFreak) for his help. Smile
