Hey all,

So income tax return time is fast approaching! good news for me, not so good for others.

I am on the market for a set of headers that will not break the bank because tuition is also due at the end of the week.

Is getting a set of coated headers really worth the extra $200? i know they look pretty, but are the other advantages really worth the cash?

If anyone knows of a good used set of 3 in shorties let me know!

~JAKE

Coated headers will last alot longer, and look alot better. But i've used the same set of headers going on 15 years on the truck, and 7 on the car(used to begin with). Both sets non coated. No real problems. The more you use the vehicle the better the headers will stay.

We need Paul to chime in here. We used a do it yourself coating on his headers. I thought it turned out real well. Was fairly inexpensive and easy to do. Not sure how its holding up. The coating is supposed to be a professional grade ceramic, and is applied with a cheap touch up gun, then cooked in an oven. Then you polish it right away if you want it to look chromed.. Otherwise it looks sort of aluminum finish. Biggest difference between this and say jet hot.. This is only on the outside of the headers. Jet hot is on the inside as well, making an even better thermal barrier/rust barrier, and sealing the header welds better.

Holds up great. It's not shiney. They wanted a light media blasting after the curing process.

Then I glowed them BRIGHT red when breaking in the new cam so they are a dull color. But the color is full and no flaking or anything like that. Pretty durable.
