one of the Z28's i have has all power options and my car has none, so how hard is the swap gonna be? and is there anything i need to be aware of? idk what im gonna do with the window crank handle cause if its power i wont be needing that anymore lol
the power switch for the rear hatch i can figure that out, its just the windows and locks and mirrors, how much of the wiring should i take out of the parts cars to make the swap easiest? _________________

The window crank is attached to the window regulator. When you swap in the power regulator you won't have a crank. All the mounting holes are there for this swap in the door. the manual regulator uses one set of holes, the power one uses a different set. Since you have both doors you will easily see what I mean. I just did a manual to power swap when I changed out the drivers door on Daisy. Was a pain believe me, but it's doable.
To remove the regulators the easiest way is to unbolt the rear window track. there are 3 bolts on it. The window will be loose so find a way to hold it up. If it comes down and your hands are in there it won't be pretty. After removing the rear track you can slide the regulator out the big hole in the rear of the door. It's easy this way. Then just slide the power track in and install the rear track and bolt the regulator in.
I've not looked at the wiring needed to do this, just have the experience of swapping a manual door over to power. Maybe someone else can chime in and give you some idea about the wiring work needed. _________________ Member of the "Elite T56 Club" , big brake club, and "burgundy" (not red or maroon) car owner.

I did the swap in my S10. I solved the problem of working inside the door by just swapping the doors from one truck to the other.
The stock power window wiring from GM was a joke at the factory, and no better twenty years later. I built new harnesses, and used relays off of the battery rather than running power through the fusebox and switches.
This is a B*tch of a job, and not something you can just to frivolously on a day off. |

Getting the power window motor out is a PITA! It is held in by rivets that must be cut or ground down. _________________ '86 Trans Am - 5.0L TPI - LT1 cam - 700R4 - WS6

It's not a PITA top get the window motor out. Easy as can be if you do it how I said in my first post. Yes you need to grind the rivets off, but if you pull the rear track off the regulator with the motor slips out easily through the back access hole. Did it twice in the last month. _________________ Member of the "Elite T56 Club" , big brake club, and "burgundy" (not red or maroon) car owner.
