Can anyone offer some advice on 4L60E transmissions? Mine is an 94 and I need to know what years are acceptable and what models. Do they change for obdII? I've heard of people swapping in 4L65E's or 4L80E's but I don't know. Any help would be great.

I've been told that my problem sounds like the front pump is going out. Would anyone recommend just replacing this part instead of rebuilding the entire transmission?

id say if your gonna pull it out, replace all the wear items, and upgrade what you can, no point in pulling it again after you beat on it for a while.

Local guy here wants 1400 to rebuild it. I'm unsure as to if I want to rebuild it myself. For that price I could do a 5 speed swap or just sell the car for parts! I'm sure a few of you would be interested in a full 300hp LT1 swap for your 3rd gen 5 speed.

ew Shocked Shocked my 700R only costed $500 to be rebuilt. you could get a T350 for probably $300. or ill take the LT1 off your hands and save you some big money Very Happy

Ya, I don't know why it was so much. It should just be 400 for labor and 400 for parts. All i've read says its the same thing as a 700R4 but with solenoids.

I called the guy back and asked him. The price includes a new TC cause "a lot of transmission failures can be linked to the TC pushing metal into the tranny".

Options:

A - Rebuild for $1400
B - buy used for $750 if I can find a 04 4L60E
C - swap over to manual
D - sell the motor swap (or car) to someone else

Since I can't find a 94 tranny (has to be a 94), and I don't want to spend 1400 on a car that doesnt fit me right, looks like I either do a T5 swap or sell it.

well i reused my TC, how about you pull the tranny, buy your own TC, a stock one wouldnt be to much more than $200 and just spend the $400 for labor and put it in yourself.
or put in the T5

If you are getting a good rebuild on a 700R4 for $500-$800 more power to you. The $1400 quote sounds closer to what I have seen.

i'm getting tired of having two project cars guys. I got my V6 car running this weekend. Took me an afternoon to determine it was a faulty pickup coil. Just in time to tear my Tahoe down again. Must be a headgasket or the intake gasket again cause its going through water. I like working on cars and all, but when its one thing after another... makes me want to get something new.

No doubt. Luckily the LT1 isn't my only car. I can't keep up when my project cars take turns breaking down on me! I can't rely on either of them. Crying or Very sad Not to mention I have a project BOAT and a project HOUSE. Just can't win. /rant.

I'm with him, but for the T56, it might cost him the same amount to buy and swap it in as the repair to the Auto he's got already.

Unless he wants an auto.

I wouldn't mind an auto rig to go with the 3 sticks I have.

So from that, it appears you can use any RWD 4l60e from 92-06?
