A sad day for world motor sports in my opinion, however, I understand the reasoning completely..... Crying or Very sad

Yeah, this is all over pretty much every car forum on the interweb. It is really such a sad commentary that the terrorists have been able to cause enough fear, that we are actualy canceling events such as this. I have very very mixed feelings about this. I really hate to see us ( us, I mean all of western culture, US, Europe, etc) let them hold enough power of us through fear, that we actualy cancel stuff like this. On the other hand, had the done something, and killed a racer, or kidnaped people, it would have been one of the darkest days in motorsport history. I guess I am still upset either way, the whole situation just makes me mad.

I know it has hit hard all over the auto enthusiast forums/news networks. Dakar is, in my case, the ultimate combination of elements....there really is something for every car/truck/motorcycle person to enjoy about it. Man and Machine vs the hardest terrain and weather on Earth.

I am torn about it as well, and have accepted that this was the only course of action. The loss of the Dakar rally is a small but poignant example of how drastically the world is changing.

I would gladly give up this sporting event for the chance at a resolution to a world of conflict, but I fear we are just seeing the beginning of a much darker time in history.
