I have a water injection for my Paxton supercharger and it has a water injection unit. I have not used it for some time and I have decided to put it back on. Now, I have one white wire and one black wire comming from my water pump. I assume the black is ground, white is power. I want my water pump to activate by boost activation. I have a new hobbs switch that grounds when I get .5lbs of boost. On my relay, I have a 30 which I think should have a constant 12v power, 87 to white wire, 85 to black wire, and 86 to hobbs, correct? If so, It's not working? The pump works as I put the power to the white and black to ground. I hear the relay clicking, but nothing is happening when the pump is hooked to the relay?
Waht gives? I'm sure it's not hooked up right, hoping some brothers here can help me out;) |

30 should be your 12v in. 87 should be the trigger wire, that should hook to the ground side of the hobbs switch. I beleive 85 should be the white wire, and 86 the black.
You should be able to test it, if you hook 12v up to 30, and then ground 87, you should hear the relay click. When it does click, with a DVOM, you should be able to see if 85 or 86 is getting 12v then.

Run 12V power to pin 85 and 87. (Don't forget a fuse)
Run 86 to the hobbs switch
Pin 30 is your power out. Run it to the white wire on the pump.
Ground the other pump wire (black).
I would connect the pump with water and verify white is hot. It CAN run backwards. Usually black/white is reserved for Alternating Current(like your house). Red/Black is usually DC. Difference being black is hot in AC and ground in DC.

hehe, I know how to do it, but its hard to tell someone else! I didn't remember the pin numbers either. Years of car audio has taught me not to think, just do.
That should work fine though man. I usually use the female connector as a butt connector. So the wire goes to 85, then jumps over to 87. If you're really cool, go to rat shack and find a relay socket.  |

If I understand correctly, the hobbs sends a ground when activated. Like Travis said, that should go to 86, 12V to 85 to complete the circuit to the coil. Your 12V wire from the pump should go to 87, and connect 12V to 30. Just like Travis' example, but 30 is hooked to a 12V supply for the pump.
Took me a little bit to figure out, but once I understood what a hobbs switch did (works kind of like a sender for a light), it was pretty simple. _________________ 92 Camaro

Ya, you could do that (power to 30 and out on 87). I like the way it looks when you wire from 85 then jumper to 87. Especially when you have a bunch of relays. When I did my friends civic we had a relay for either door (shaved handles with door pops), relay for gas lid, relay for hatch, relay to turn the radio on, relay for neons. Just a big long brick of relays!
Since I assume you are putting this in the engine compartment, I would mount the relay either on the firewall with the rest of the relays or over by the battery. And make sure all the wires go down in a pigtail about 6" long with lots of zip ties or split loom conduit. If you ever have to replace the relay it helps to make it pretty.  |

My driving lights (at least that's what Pilot calls them) are wired with a couple of those relays, one to control the other. They turn on with the ignition and off when the park lights come on. The circuit can be overridden by a dash mounted switch to another relay wired in with the low beams. So other than being daytime running lights, they otherwise operate with a switch only when the low beams are on. _________________ 92 Camaro
