Ok, I have never messed with exhaust systems before, but let me see if my train of thought is correct.

Buy headers and a Y-Pipe with 3 inch pipe, take it back to a cutt out pipe, but my question is:

If I install a 3 inch electronic cut out, then can I use some kind of a adapter and hook up the cat behind the cutt out?

I want to run the stock muffler, still run a cat, and hopfully leave MOST of that part alone, making it so the car is nice and enviro frendly and quiet when I aint driving hard.

please, details on how this could be done, I aint done anything with exhuast before![/img]

You will have to weld it yourself. Really the easiest place to fit a cut-out on our cars, is right where the cat is.

personally i say screw the environment. i have headers and a flow master exhaust w/o cat. and i still dont think its loud enough.

Check into the emission laws where your car is registered. If you don't have to have a cateletic converter, get rid of it.

John (dewey316) has Hooker shorty headers, no cat, aftermarket Y-pipe, 3" exhaust pipe from the Y back, and a flowmaster (40 series? 80 Series?), and his car is pretty tame unless he's on it.

His car is an L03 just like yours. (albeit, his is modifed in a few more places)

Technically Chris, if your car came with a catalytic converter... by law you're supposed to have one. Emission required or not.

Pretty much any Header/Y pipe you buy... will need some sort of modification to get it to mate to the factory exhaust.

Your best bet is to buy a Header/Y pipe assembly.
Buy a Cat back assembly.

Then buy an exhaust cutout and have the cutout welded to the Y and the Catback.
