Well, I succesfully towed the Firebird to Illinois. No drama except for a gas spill on the trailer. I suspect it happened for a few hours before I caught it. Good thing is it will be a whole lot easier to remove my gas tank! Very Happy But right now the 'Bird is sitting in my garage all washed up and shiny. Too bad the interior is loaded with mouse crap. Laughing But at least I can take care of it now! Smile

I was kind of suprised... the old 'Bird still attracts a lot of looks. I think every trucker is a 3rd gen lovin' redneck. I got a ton of waves. There were many people that hung out by the trailer while driving just staring at the car, including a 4th gen driver that my wife saw forming the word, "SWWWWWEET!"

But the real news is how my F250 performed. What a great truck! It's an older 7.3L PowerStroke 2WD with 6 spd manual. The 6 spd is great for towing! I averaged 19 mpg @ 70 mph unloaded on the way out. On the way back I had the bed loaded to the top of a high rise canopy + 2000 lb trailer + 3800 lb car. Check this out.... 15 mpg @ 65 mph!!! Better yet it hardly even slowed down over the Rockies. I just matted the throttle and cruised right over the passes in 6th gear. At worst I would have to drop down to 5th gear near the top of the pass.

All told my vacation was great and I'm glad to have access to work on the car. Maybe we'll actually see a little progress now! Very Happy

Cool, glad you had a smooth trip.

The 7.3 Powerstroke kicks ass, I know mine has never come up short on power when towing. Cool

As much as I'm a bowtie person, the Ford super duties are no joke. My neighbor has a totalled repaired f250 turbo 6.0, and it tows his construction trailer around with very little problems. Ive even driven it and seems to handle decent for what it is.

As for f-bodys pulling looks. Yep, This rag top of mine gets all kinda looks, from old gray hairs to young teeny-boppers.

Some of ours are old enough to get antique plates now Shocked

Good deal Jon. So are you going to start working on it anytime soon? It would be nice to see that girl hit the street under her own power. The legend comes alive!
