So I've kinda been looking for a new car. but every time i look i always come back to looking at more 3rd gens. I recently found this on craigslist
http://seattle.craigslist.org/sno/car/363278581.html
It's like 20 minutes from my house and i was gonna go take a look at it, but i wasn't sure if it would be worth it. If i do go down and look at it I'll deffinatley look to see if he cut an access hole or did the fuel pump replacement the right way. But im not sure how he knows that the fuel rail also went bad? can anyone give me any insight on what to look for and what i should test to make sure that the car would even be worth what he's asking? |

Don't worry about it. I ran up there and bought it.
JUUUUUUUUST kidding.
It's worth a look... but I've never heard of a "fuel rail" going "bad."
Take your codes list. Pull the codes.
Pull the dip stick, look at the oil for evidence of a blown head gasket. (Custard pudding look... also known as a variety of other substances, but none that are allowed on this board that I can think of (baby poop?)
Also, feel the oil and smell it. If it smells burnt or like a lot of gas is in it...
Have him turn it over, whether it will start or not.
Pull the plugs. Look at the color... look for oil. You don't want to see any.
Pull the air filters. Air filters say a lot about a car.
Pull the trans dip stick. Look at the fluid and smell that as well. Again, if it looks or smells burned... _________________ "Are you guys ready? Let's roll."

| a "bad fuel rail" probably means ether a clogged fuel filter, or bad injector wires. |

Might also be worth checking the pressure regulator on the rail.
BTW, Kage, that water/oil/antifreeze mix is best known as the chocolate milkshake. I know it all to well. |

It sounds like he went throwing parts at the car. If you have a fuel pressure gauge, bring it. He's probably talking about the Fuel pressure regulator on the rail (I think they're on the rails on TPI atleast?)
I'd personally snatch this one up in a heartbeat, it looks very clean on the outside, and very discounted with probably a easy diagnosis, and probably easier fix. |

| If it has a fuel rail it's going to be a V6. |

That white car in the ad is an RS. Either a V6 or a LO3. LO3 doesn't have a fuel rail. |
