Not to long ago i started noticing my E-Brake light comming on under hard breaking. The break pedel does seem to go down a bit further than usuall wich i guess throws on the 'Warning' light. But I dont know whats causing it. The master cylender was a bit lower than it has been on fluid but still above the minimum mark (havent checked it since I did my brakes wich was about a year ago) so i added some and so far the levels are fine (been about 3days, and 60miles of driving). There seems to be no leakes so i had a shop take a quick look at it and he said there was a "huge" gap between the caliper and the pads on my right rear wich causes my break pedal to go down further to make up the distance wich is causing my light to come on. I got it home, jacked it up and looked to see if there was a gap but there was no gap, it looked fine. The only thing i can think of thats causing this is either a clogged brake line or maybe the piston in the caliper is screwed up. Anyone have a guess to what it could be?
BTW-every once and a while the light stays on even when your not braking but goes back off when you get the brake pedel to go down to that certain point that normaly causes it to go on.

I'm pretty sure the E-brake light is controlled by a switch in the lever, not the actual applied braking force. You might pull out the repair manual and look at some wiring diagrams.
I could be wrong though.

air in the lines,low on fluid,no more pads left... |

well the pads are newer and look fine and the fluid levels are the same since i added more, the only reason i think it was low was because i hadn't checked it since doing my breaks about a year ago and the seal wasn't on good enough. So I guess it narrows it down to air in the lines.
What color is the fluid supposed to be? In the mastercylender its a darker brownish but the new fluid i added was a lot lighter and transparent. Is there darker color brake fluid or is mine just dirty wich could also be the problem of my lines getting clogged? |

That crap is dirty dude. I would flush the lines and refill with some fresh stuff (make sure to bleed them properly) and try it again. _________________

Well my car is going to be "under the knife" soon so i will be fixing the breaks along with refinishing my wheels and putting on a good set of heads along with some polishing under the hood and long needed cleaning. Thanks for the help! |
