Just something to keep on the minds of everyone, Oregon really wants to push something like this through. Hopefully this will come down to a vote of the people. This whole thing just scares me.

If this whole GPS tracking goes into effect, I guess I will be forced to become a citizan of WA.

i am voting NO!!!

Quote:
volunteers were told that information about when their cars were in the state of Oregon, or inside the Portland metro area, could be subpoenaed in a criminal investigation.

unacceptable violation of my right to privacy.

Quote:
"To me, it just feels like a way to get around taxpayer approval of increased gas taxes," Kennedy said.

Oregon Voters long ago decided that ANY and ALL tax laws had to be voted in or out by the people for a damn good reason. this is unacceptable.

Quote:
[the millage tax is]designed to be revenue neutral at 20 mpg. Cars with better gas mileage paid more under the mileage tax than they would have under the gas tax.

soooo... Oregon is going to punish those with high millage and good for the environment cars, while lessoning the tax burden on those of us that have 15MPG 350 v8s? does this seem totally {edit} messed up {end edit] to anyone else? why don't they just increase the gas tax that way the lower millage cars continue to pay a higher tax burden then hybrids and such. i know that means I will pay more in taxes but i am ok with that. why, because it's fair thats why.

Quote:
[one volunteer] also worried about someone breaking into her car because the device, mounted on the dashboard, was a invitation for thieves.

wait, this stupid ugly thing mounts inside my car where it will be ruining the aesthetics of my digital dash. not on my watch.

EDIT** BTW jenn, you don't have to tell the truth. type 97225 (portland west hills) male and 1910. thats what i did. only because it would not accept 1810. Very Happy

Yet another reason why I do everything I can to stay out of the Soviet Socialist Republic of Oregon and its Soviet capital, Portland.

Funny thing is people that drive the heavy pickups that tow trailers, get half the mileage and damage the roads more then a Camaro will pay the same as the Camaro per mile. Also the government makes the new cars get better mileage and now the aren't getting enough money.

Hey, you're all forgetting one very important thing: Any time your car (purposfully) loses traction, you'd be paying for milage you never drove. Kinda ruins the fun of smokeshows, doesn't it? Squint

This thing is BS either way. Granted it will keep more people from doing unnecessary driving, the whole approach is just not right.

I dont think it will ever happen. Look at the cost of something like this. The gps units, gas pumps and dmv problems. Then there is the problem with people bypassing it. what are they going to have service centers to install and calibrate. Will people put in a switch to turn them off? they will have to be on 24-7. If it gets turned off will it throw a signal to the cops to come check it out? Seems to be so many problems with the idea. Also the state doesnt have to have a vote on it to get it passed. Its not a new tax just a different way of getting the money so they can just do it.

Maybe they will install them like the breath analyzers. Car wont start unless the gps is working. That would be great for tow companys.

$3.09/3.19/3.29 near my Dad's house, $3.01 at the station next to where I work. Rolling Eyes

I'm starting to get fond memories of last year before I had the IROC tuned up. $3.45 for premium at 9mpg.

the way the article describes the device it seems to me youcould just leave it home. one tester talked of removing it from her car while leaving the car parked outside.
