I'm being pulled in....the dark side of the force is pulling me in. First it was firebird door handles, now it's blue parts. Were will it all end for me?? I feel like this masked blue figure will come out and tell me "Dan, I'm your father"
Now just have to find a place to mount this "brick" and figure how to wire it in. When I lifted the package I thought......what did this guy send me?? A friggin brick instead of a coil. Boy this thing is HEAVEY compared to something like an Accell super coil.
Hmmm...........wonder how it would look painted burgandy??

I've never seen that style coil up close, could you take the outer casing off and powder coat the whole thing another color? (I'd personally go with black, but that's just me)
And damn, seems everyone is running the jacobs coil! _________________

| From the look of the coil, seems like it's eproxied inside the extrusion. So it's either live with it, or paint it. |

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH JACOBS!
lol, we had the worst luck with that stuff in a TPI vette.
Had to rip out all the jacobs components and restore the HEI.
I was hoping that it was a fluke, but man was it crappy to deal with. _________________

POPO, the ignition control boxes from jacobs are junk.
The old coils, especially, and the nitrous master mind are wonderful. |

So wait, this coil is junk or not?
I'm sorry, I just didn't get whether you meant only the nos mastermind is wonderful. _________________

| That great big monster square brick of a coil is the good one. The newer different shaped ones, Paul had a problem with. Though several others are still working. Mr gasket took over the company between these two versions. I'm not ready to condemn all the new coils over one bad one, but Mr gasket is a company known for cheapening their products. I've not heard much good at all about any Jacobs ignition box however. |

was there a difference in voltage and amperage between the old and the new coils? I have the new and it seemed to improve over the blaster at least but I keep the blaster around just in case. _________________

| Spec's read the same. Though the old coil is quite a bit larger. Hard to tell if there's any difference though, because you are only looking at the outside housing. The real coil is buried in epoxy. |

Ok, I'm powered by blue now. Mounted the coil in the "standard" 3rd gen location. Used the proper gauge wire, good ground directly to the engine, good solid mounting. Haven't driven it anywhere yet, but at least it started. I think this is a good sign
Will know tomorrow if it makes any difference.
And by the way.......there is another good Jacob's part. The plug wires are absolutely wonderful. I had a set on this car for about 15 years before one terminal corroded past the point of repair. So I got some new Jacob's wires with the ceramic boots. No chance of melting the plug boots now. |
