Depends on your deck height.
I haven't had any trouble with Fel Pros. I run the Steel Shim because my deck height is .025 and the gasket crushes to a ..015 which is a perfect quench.
I ran a .045 and an .041 felpro before on an old motor and had no problems. |

I'd run felpro as well. Nothing wrong with Napa/victor either, but napa is in the process of changing to felpro, so not sure on availability there. There are some really spendy high tech type head gaskets out there as well. Never needed them myself though. If you think you need em i'd research at Team Chevelle. |

I had the cheaper felpro gaskets. I might try going with copper gaskets _________________ 85 Z28, 383 Stroker, TH350 tranny, Richmond 4.10 gears, dual exhaust

What is your deck height?
What gasket exactly did you use before?
How did you torque your head down?
What incriments?
What final torque?
Did you chase the head bolt holes with a tap before putting the head on?
Did you use permatex thead sealer on the bolt threads for lubrication?
How old is the head, may be warped. |

Yeah, the deck height is really important, you want to make sure you get your quench right. I am in the same boat as paul, I'm using the steel shim gaskets, because my pistons are sunk in the hole, so I need the thin gasket to get the right quench. If you had your block decked when you built it, so the pistons are flush with the deck surface, then you will need to run a thicker gasket. |

I think that the deck height is standard. I'm not certain though, so i'm going to find out from the guy that built my engine. _________________ 85 Z28, 383 Stroker, TH350 tranny, Richmond 4.10 gears, dual exhaust
