Don't think I'm bragging here guys, just sharing what Ive been up to...

Here's a peak at my new addition and what has torn me away from working on the Blue Beast for the last several months! I picked this up off of Craigslist for $400 a few months back with original intentions to fix for my niece who was car less. Since I gave it to her it broke down on her once too often so she gave it back and financed something newer. I could see the potential in it so I gave it my full attention.

It was a mess when I got it. Wouldnt run, paint looked like chalk, steering column/console busted, tail light smashed, both side mirrors cracked, gas gauge jumped everywhere. It had three different types of plugs in it from someone in the past being too lazy or just not mechanically inclined. I've replaced most of the normal wear and tear parts from the 88 IROC/89 RS that I parted. Just to get it runnning required the normal tune-up items, coil, ign module along with a radiator and hoses, several sensors and a carb rebuild. After I got it runnning the CAT ended up being clogged and I had to replace the intake gaskets from a massive oil leak.

This project has literally consumed most all of my spare time after work and on weekends. I just installed a rebuilt trans, Al driveshaft, 3.45 posi, stock replacement exhaust, fixed the fuel sending unit, replaced the brakes, shocks, steering column, center console, left tail light and radiator/hoses; all parts courtesy of the cars I parted. All in all, I've probably put 50 hours or more into it, including the 8 hours to clay bar, polish and wax the paint. Like I said, it was a mess. The only thing good about the car was it did have a good engine, straight body and nice rims with new tires.

It runs great now, one tap of the gas and it starts and idles beautifully. It's not the fastest Maro' around but it's fun to drive! I'm only halfway through my first tank of gas and I'm having a blast carving corners in it!

i like the SV-IROCs with the gold. i have never seen that before. looks good on the red car. interior also appears nice. car is beautifull on the outside as well.

Yeah, I like the Single Vein IROCs too. Heck, it was the main reason I initially went to get the car. The receipt for the tires mounted on them was for $740 alone! The interior is ...ok, it's been neglected too though. The back plastics are so unconditioned (dry?) they are almost crumbling, you can literally scrape away material with your fingernail. The front seats were trashed, I'm using a pair of Black seats with seat covers in the front, the backs are decent though.

No major plans for it, I think I'll keep it stock for a while. My wife wants me to sell it and my niece and her fiance want to buy it back for $3400. I'm just having a hard time deciding to part with it after I've put so much time into it and, after all it is a 3rd Gen!

That car looks pretty straight and you are sure into it right. Will be a hard choice to get rid of it.

Well it breaks my heart but I sold the 86 last night for $3,000. They're taking delivery in early April. I took the day off to get the steering components changed and a front end alignment done to it.

I decided to get my IROC back into the garage so I can fix it and attempt to meet you guys at the Dyno in Sequim. I also just placed the order for the injectors and gaskets for I need, $295 for the injectors, ouch!

Looking forward to checking out izcains beast and meeting some more Crewbies!
