I'm venting..........damn cable seized up and when it did the driven gear stopped and that made the drive gear walk forward on the main shaft. So...............have to pull the trans to push it back in place. It's so tight in there no way to get anything on it and move it back into position. Second time this has happened to me. All this over an stinking $8.50 speedo cable.

There goes my two days off before I work 10 days straight. Had other "fun" things I wanted to do to the car instead of pulling the trans again. Bashy Bashy

I would leave the speedo cable unhooked of i were you. To me that isn't worth going through, more then once for that matter.

Well..........this is a computer car. I have an SES light for a speed sensor problem, and the car dies when I come to a light.......the computer doesn't know what's going on, car moving, stopped, ect. So not much choice but to fix it really.

At least I have two days of to be able to fix it. Should be thankful for that I guess.

I dont have the speedo hooked up in my car either, and I have the same problem... The car likes to die when I come to a stop... I usually just give it a quick rev and it will be fine...

That’s a tail shaft only thing, I think.

Shouldn’t be too bad if it’s not raining.
I haven’t done my correct Speedo gears yet, but soon.
Doesn't look like it’s too bad of a job, as long as you got some good company helping you. And it is a tail shaft only thing

Well.........no help for me. All alone today.

On a T5 to get to the speedo drive gear you have to pull the trans apart. It isn't just remove the extension housing on it unfortunately. Been there.......done this before............I'm sorry to say.

Just got the console out and the shifter removed. Now the underneath stuff....................got to remember what size the huge bolts are holding the spohn torque arm on. Was nice to have that nice aluminum driveshaft......it's very light to move around.

Ok........more fun with the project. Chevy has discontinued the gears I have in my trans. So............now I start looking for any gears I can get, and have the little reducer box regeared Sad

Ok........have totally struck out here.

Anyone have a good set of speedo gears out of a T5 around the portland area??

Tired the speedo shop on 4th plain, they have driven gears only, and the two in Portland have nothing. Trans shops told me they don't do many T5's.

Years ago I chucked a blown T5, wish I'd have saved the speedo gears.

Paul, what's the name of the spedometer place? Since I have 3.73's now and my Spedometer is calibrated for 3.08's, I need a spedometer gear change, Right? If they can replace capacitors in the tach, I need to do that too. It works until you hit 3500rpm then the needle sticks and won't go back down until you shut off the car.

It's A&B Radiator and Speedometer service. 360-256-1560.

When I changed from 3.08's to 3.42's I'd just rebuilt my transmission and really didn't want to rip it apart to do a gear change. So I went to A&B and had them make me a little speedometer correction gear box. It just screws on where your cable goes, then the speedo cable screws onto the gear box. They ran my car on the rollers and then calculated what I needed for a correction. As I recall cost me about $70 installed. It was my cable that screwed things up this time, not this little gear box.

dude, if that's all thats wrong with your tach i can do that. just pull the board and i can get the numbers off each capacitor, go to norvac and buy new ones, and replace every single one. there can't be more then a handfull right?

Got it at A&B radiator and speedometer. Not sure if it works for electric speedos or not. Call and ask them.

I went to A&B today to get a driven gear. He calculated I needed a 22 tooth gear. Sold it to me for $7. I got back home put it in, and a little later went back and had them run my car on the rollers to check the accuracy of my speedo. Turns out he gave me a 22 and I needed a 21. He gave me the 21 for free, and didn't charge me a thing for running the car on the rollers.

I will be back there again if there is anything I ever need in the way of speedo parts. Needless to say I was a very happy camper after leaving there.
