I was a little frustrated last week looking at used trucks. They cost so stinking much! Shocked And the trucks that aren't a fortune are complete junk. All I want is a reliable 3/4 ton truck with reasonable miles that I can sell in 8 months without loosing money. How hard can that be? Very Happy

And then I stumbled on a heck of a deal! I went to a dealer the last day of the year in the last hour they were open. I figured I could put some pressure on them if they really wanted to make one last sale in 2006. Sure enough... they wanted to deal. Very Happy They had a 2000 F250 XLT extended cab with a turbo deisel, 6 speed manual, posi, and 83K miles at $18K. It was in excellent shape and to my suprise had NO RUST! Extremely unusual in the midwest! I offered them an insulting amount, we went around two times, and I walked out with it at $13K! Thumbs up As long as she holds together I'll be making money on it later this year. Wiggly wiggly

Now the biggest milestone is down. Just need to find a trailer and QwkTrip is coming home with me! Cool

Hey! Sweet deal man. We have a turbo dodge cummins and it pulls and pulls and pulls. And then when I hook a trailer up it does the same thing. Smile

And as a dealer, cough, you did well on that one.

Thanks, guys! I'm pretty happy about my good fortune on this one. Smile

So what is everbody else doing about the ultra low sulfur diesel fuel? I don't know how to tell what a gas station is using without walking in and asking. So to be safe I purchased a bottle of fuel supplement that will run me about $1 per 25 gallons fuel. I was trying to find some websites where I could track what gas stations have 500 ppm sulfur fuel - especially for my trip this summer. But I'm not having any luck. I also heard a rumor that some states have mandated that fuels sold in their state have lubricants added for older trucks. But I can't verify that either.

Any thoughts?

They seem to know what they're talking about. Seems like somebody at CAT would know for sure. Smile

I have talked to a few guys at CAT. They are mixing in 4% soy oil for their personal vehicles and farm equipment. They have it delivered to their farms pre-mixed. I don't have a line on soy oil so I need to find a good substitute.

It seems if there are 3 people in a room there are 4 opinions on this subject. Very Happy

Got my first mileage figures. 15 mpg in stop and go city traffic. Not bad for lugging around 6000 pounds. It's cheaper to drive the 3/4 ton truck than my Jeep! Laughing
