I think you'll find thats a 33417369. Thats a Hecho en Mexico replacement head that came on a low performance crate motor. It has 76cc combustion chambers so it will keep compression pretty low too.
You can look up casting numbers on www.mortec.com |

They mean the differance between a low performance engine and something that runs strong. Valve size doesn't really matter with SBC's when it comes to IDing heads. |

Define "crate" motor.
Cause you can have a "crate" motor, that is in no way shape or form a "performance" motor. |

| If the blocks a match it should say hecho en mexico on the back near the bellhousing. Those heads and the mexican block come from the low performance crate engine. They're usually rated 210hp gross and have 4 bolt mains. The 290 hp and up motors are the performance motors. Those blocks will be canadian or US. |

| Ya. those motors are great pullers. Put it in a pickup and it'll run a very long time. Low compression so they'll burn crap gas too. Or swap cams and heads and it can be made into a performer. |

| I thought there were some machining tolerances or that it was kind of a crappy casting or something that made the mexi blocks crappy? |

| It's their castings. They're great the first time through. But they really need to be checked for core shift if you're going to bore. There's alot of extra iron in them so they're heavy. I think they do this just to make sure that if the castings off there's still enough metal. The one I have they actually had to grind on the sides of the valley to make room for the lifters to drop in their holes. The american blocks don't even come close to being in the way. I've heard that if you find one without alot of shift, becuase of the extra iron they're a tough motor. Just looking at the differences between my hecho en mexico block and my others, i've always rebuilt the american blocks. Someday if i'm desperate, I might do my mexican one. |
