I don't want to completely clutter up Danked's topic. What all is involved in the delete? Basically it looks like I could just pull the cables, plug the vacuum line, and find a new blinker stalk.

Cool. I think I'll leave the vacuum canister and sh** for now, and just plug the line. I'm mainly doing it to get uneeded wires out from under the dash, and to free up engine bay space.

Are you going to be coming up to the raining North anytime soon?

Why in the world would you want to remove cruise control? Confused

Well, less mess under the dash was my main motivation. I already disabled it by pulling the cable off the TB bracket since I never use the thing, but occasionally bump the button, which was a problem. Embarassed

The vacuum canister IIRC is hooked to the same lines as your HVAC controls aswell as your cruise.

Would it be possible to remove the diaphragm, brackets, cables, and stuff under the dash, but leave the canister intact?

you can. i have it detailed in the attached post. however, the vaccume canister is unnneded for HVAC unless you have the pushbutton electric HVAC. (at least as far as i know) all other HVAC boxes are cable controlled. i do not have the canister on my V6 car and it's heater only box still functions quite nice.

All my HVAC stuff needs a vacuum connection to the intake to work. hense "HVAC : Heater Vacuum?"

When the hard plastic line from the engine was broke, my heater was stuck in defrost fan setting.

Also, the vacuum line controls the heater valve (which I deleted).

Maybe it's just native on cars that run AC? I don't know. But there are little vacuum motors that open/close doors depending on the selection you choose that are run off vacuum. IF you have the round vacuum canister/ball hooked up, it allows you to change settings with the engine off, provided it's still charged.

that is how my Electric heater controls work on my AC GTA. i always thought it was because it was electric not because of AC. but i bet your right. my six never had a heater core valve. nor does it have vaccume controleld anything. but the GTAs vents are all vaccume controlled. and when i broke the line it was on defroster only.

Trust me, it needs the vacuum. Mine was leaking out the back of the control panel, and it took me forever to track it down.

Tony, do you need the canister too, or just the diaphragm?

i pulled everything but the wires out of my 86 car originally. but i am not leaving CC in this car. i am just going to use it to test fit a "stealth" CC system. then i am going to yank it off and use it's now modified pieces to hide the CC on the GTA. all i realy need is the diaphram and cable.

i am thinking of hiding it in the front bumper somwhere. then using two cables (or a realy long cable from some other car) to reach all the way to the engine. once i clear out the CC i can realy start cleaning up the GTAs engine bay more.

Okay, cool. So do you want the parts soon, or does it even matter? The car is just sitting right now, so I can pull them anytime.

Tony, followup question, since I figured you would know. One the backside of a CC blinker stalk, there are a bucnh of wires going into a single black sheath. Are these just CC wires, or are they something else like wipers?

I was hoping I could replace my blinker stalk with a non-CC one since my current one is busted anyway.

those are the wires for the CC. you can cut them off and pull them through from the bottom of the colum (should be obvious which plug it is) or leave them, they connect to nothing inside the colum, they just go through it.

Cool. So theoretically I should be able to pull my stalk and wires, and just plug in a non-CC stalk and still retain all normal wiper/headlight functions.

Thanks. Cool

Make sure the wipers are turned off before you pull the stalk. When I last changed the stalk, i gave a good pull not even thinking about the wipers being in the on position. This broke my wiper switch, which at the time was obsoleted and spendy.
