While you guys were up playing around in Canada.

My fuel pump took a dive. So I guess maybe my missing might have been for the better. Would have really sucked for it to die on me, in BC.

Anywho, got the tank out tonight, and the new pump in the tank. Going to put the tank back in tomorrow night.

Let me say, as a 1 person job, the fuel pump really sucks. Last few times I have done this, we had 2-3 of us doing it, that makes a huge diffrence.

Hope you guys enjoyed the great north. I can't wait to see pics!

yeah, that would have sucked to have to do a fuel pump on the side of the road in canada. good luck with the rest of it. how many hours has it taken so far? some people were giving me crap for taking two days on mine before dyno.

we missed the Lama up in Canada, i was looking forward to viewing your car in action around some turns. you would have liked it, the cruise would have realy allowed you to shine with your built (understatement) suspension.

I put in abotu 4-4.5 hours yesterday.

But, I spent a good amount of time, working on getting a stripped flare fitting for a brakline undone, and also I had to sort out my tools, so really I probably only got in about 3.5 hours of wrenching, and an hour of that, was spend on 1 flare fitting.

Having two people, to get the tank out makes all the diffrence, that was by far the worst part. Dropping the rear-end, and the exaust is pretty eays.

the tank was always the hard part for me too. being able to remove the exhaust makes all the difference.

so did you undo your brake lines? i always removed the first three hangers and allowed them to flex down to the rear-end. then i don't have to re-bleed the brakes. though that is realy just me being lazy.

Yes I disconnected the brake line. I am always worried abotu damaging the hard line.

FWIW, when I do it, I get the rear of the car up in the air. Pull the driveshaft, and panhard out. I unbolt only the axle side of the LCA's, and then drop the rear end all they way to the ground (I leave the TA attached).

Then, I pull the exaust out. Since mine is flanged where the cat was, I just unbolt the exaust system, and pulled it all the way out of the car. From there, it was just a matter of pulling the tank out.

Did you do a stock replacement or step up to a better unit?

Too bad you went stock. One from a Syclone bolts in place. Wasn't much more $$$ that the stock one was.

And.........I put this one in twice. I used the o-ring that came with the pump, got it in, went and filled up with gas, and had gas everywhere. Did some checking and found the o-ring didn't seal. Was in right, just didn't seal correctly. I went to chevy and got one that had a metal flange with an o-ring on each side of it. Was a b*tch to get it compressed and get the lock ring in place, but it does not leak. Cost me about $12 for it. Much better than taking the tank out twice.

Dan,

I wish I would have known about the SyTy-pump.

I would have gone with a racetronix kit like mike, but I really can't wait a week or two for it to ship.

Well...........didn't see your post til after you had done it........sorry.

Also..........next time I pull my tank, I'm cutting the fuel neck and puting a 6" section of fuel hose in it to make it easier to install. Got mine at Napa for about $5 as I recall.

Well, while you guys were having fun up north I stopped Mr. Lama's and enjoyed some of he and Bartimus' homebrew, and gave him a few MAF sensors as that was the initial guess to what turns out to be a fuel pump problem.

(I'll have to come back and get those from ya sometime this week, John)

Come get them whenever you want. Thanks for bringing those by.

Ok, and 8 hours of labor later. I have now determined that the fuel pump, was in fact good. And I am still not building fuel pressure. I think it may be the regulator, something else in the fuel system.

That was a heck of a lot of work, to not fix anything.

Alright, well still no progress here. I am going to continue troubleshooting it again tonight. This problem is starting to drive me nuts.

Make sure you didn't run over a pack of gum or some other ground clearance hindering object and smash a fuel line shut.

I feel for you, my T/A died in front of an entire car show crowd and had to be pushed into the show lineup.

Code 34 is stored, it barely keeps idle, seems like its starving for fuel.

Let me know what you find out. Clean your fuel pump relay contacts, that helped me once when nothing else worked.
