| If anyone can help out that would be awesome. I have 4.11 gears in my garage that I want to put in, but I don't want to without some sort of traction control. Are drum axle, 3-series, LSD units hard to come by? I've been looking around for a long time and noone seems to have any for sale. If I can't find one soon I'll have to buy new. Any suggestion or offers? |

| For the posi unit drum or disc doesn't matter if that helps your search. Spline count on the axles matters though, if you have an 89 you could have 26 or 28 spline axles I believe. |

Ahh didn't realize LSD was an acronym for Limited Slip.
Limited Slip is a GM term |

| Posi-tractrion is just a "GMism" for a clutch type Limited Slip Differential or LSD. there are three types of LSD; clutch, viscous and helical. |

And Torsen!^ Actually there are tons of different kinds of "posi/limited slip"
As far as I know "limited slip" is a GM term. Everyone else calls them positraction. Hense GM's additive called "Limited Slip Oil Additive." |

Read the link....
| Quote: | Factory Names
In the 1950's and 1960's many manufacturers began to apply brand names to their LSD units. The most famous of these was Chevrolet's "Positraction". Since then, Positraction (often shortened to "positrac" or merely "posi") has become a genericized trademark for LSDs.
Other factory names for LSD's include
Pontiac: Safe-T-Track
Ford: Equa-Lock and Trac-Lok
American Motors Corporation: Twin-Grip
Mopar: Sure Grip
Ferrari: E-Diff
Fiat: Viscodrive |

I always kind of figured that "limited slip" was just a generic term for anything that will have two wheels turning on any manufacturers car.
I always thought each manufacture had there own cute little name for it (IE, chevy: Positraction, Ford: Equa-lock, Mopar: Sure-grip.)
oh well. _________________

Dang........when I saw the "LSD" thing I thougth I was having flashbacks to the 60's
LSD was the term for "Lysergic acid diethylamide" One of those "mind altering drugs we had back then. |

Now that we all are on the same page...
Back to my post. Like I said before, I'm looking for some kind of traction control. The rear end in my car is a GM 10bolt that will accept 26 spline 3 series carriers. If anyone has anything that will fit back there I would greatly appreciate it if it was for sale. What I don't want is a 2 series commonly found on IROC's or other V8 cars. _________________ E30

| 2 series carrier is fine if you use a ring gear spacer. There about $40 - $50 . If you got a smoking deal on a two series it would be worth it. |

I'm slowly learning about camaro axles...
A stock GM 10 bolt camaro axle is a 7.5" right, not 7 5/8"? I have a 2 series LSD at home, but I hadn't known it would work until I just found out the spline count are the same. I'm going to track down a spacer and get it. |

Make sure the spacer comes with bolts. Sounds stupid but the ringgear bolts are left hand thread 7/16's fine thread. You can not just buy them.
I got a "deal" on the first ring gear spacer I bought and figured I'd just run down to the hardware store and get some longer bolts.
BTW, I have a spacer for sale.
Just needs bolts. |
