Xophertony, Yeah youre right, 3.27. I had to go look it up, thanks.
Danked, You'll ned to find out what your gear ratio is first. You'll want to go numerically higher, ie.. 3.27 to 3.70. The best way to do it is to count the teeth on ring and pinion. Probably not practical if youre driving it around. There's another way to jack it, mark the driveshaft and tire and count revolutions, something like that.
Be cautious of the expense though, my tranny shop charged me close to $400.00 in labor to swap gears from 3.27 to 3.70, and I even supplied the gears and rebuild kit! |

| Danked, being a V6 91, I would be pretty sure in saying, these gears won't fit your car. You will have a 10bolt in your car. These gears for for the BW 9bolt. |

You probably have either 3.08's or 3.23's. Possibly 3.42's if its a 5 speed car, but the last year that I know of GM factory installing 3.42's on 5 sp V6 cars was 1984/1985 (whatever the last year the carbed 2.8L was offered). After that everything got 3.23's for the 5 speed cars. _________________

| Actually. 3.23 with a 700R4 isn't bad. That's going to give you a ratio of 10 or so out of the hole. The problem ain't the gears, it's this: LH0 V6 8.5:1 3.1 (191) hp140@4400 tq180@3600 |

| Actually, I was asking blue89, since I have a pretty good idea what a stock 3.1 will dyno at. However I've never seen the numbers on that small of a bored V6 before, so I was kinda interested. |

ya, we'll see. I have to get the something fixed tho. It hits a wall at 6000rpm. Maybe its fuel related since there isn't a software limit. Back to gears....
The V6's pretty much all came with 3.42 opens as far as I know. So for a V6 car to go from 3.42 to 3.27 would be a bad idea. Go up in ratio. But for a V8 car with a stock 2.72, it would be a great improvement! |

Of course not. People don't think about it, but not maintaining your engine destroys any performance.
I'm gonna leave this hijack be after this. |
