I have a friend that wants to swap out his v6 to a v8 tpi, his computer number is above, Is the wireing harness the same, except for the two extra injectors?, can I just plug in a 165 computer?

or can this computer be used for the tpi setup ??? maybe a re-pin ?

thanks
scott

It would take some doing to make it work. The eeprom is programmed to run a V6. And you cant just change the eeprom because the computer board is pinned for a V6, so putting a V8 prom in a V6 board throws a code. Just use the right computer unless you don't have a problem making custom proms. Plus the tpi V8 may run a map sensor and a maf, so you'd have to reprogram anyway. Need more info.

Ok,
Thanks
I will take a look at the car and see what it looks like

Is that ecm a Maf? (its the v6)
Also will the 165 computer plug into the existing computer connectors?
Or would I have to do some re wiring?

One more,

Iam looking for the easiest way to put a 305tpi in this car, as far as the computer stuff goes, the motor will be pretty much stock.

Any suggestions?

All 2.8 MPFI cars are MAF with no MAP (as far as I know). Not until you get to the 91+ 3.1's do you get MAP engines. The plugs will work tho, but they probably wont run.

I'm sure everyone else will have thier own opinion, but I would take the entire engine harness with computer and swap them. Shouldn't be a big deal at all.

yes. thats why im throwing my 3.1 away and putting in a carb'd 350. anyways, the maf sensor is located on the throttle body i believe

i am with you. with the engine out of the ar this will be a breeze. with the engine in the car it will be about a two hour job. it took chris and i one hour to pull the harness out of his CCC305 and about the same to pull the harness on his CCC2.8.

not that anyone asked, but just to clarify: the MAF sensor is located in the air inlet piping. on your(danked) MPFI camaro it is just after that crazy "Y" intake, on an MPFI 2.8 bird (that has a stock intake) it is just after the air can before the crazy flat (flow ruining) baffle.

It won't do anything. Save you penny's for a worthwhile mod. (That is probably the reason you aren't finding one.)

I once read a TGO article where they proved that the airflow of a stock V8 TB was good up to 500-something HP. I highly doubt yours is going to become a bottleneck.

And next time make a new topic for this.

yes, this is called a "hijack" Laughing and he is talking about a 3.1 MPFI TB BTW. the answer is prety much the same. there is a guy on TGO doing 12 second 1/4 miles with a forced induction 2.8. he has masivly re-worked internals and is pushing bigger numbers then many of our v8s (not all of our v8s), and he is running the stock TB from the 2.8 (with mild porting i believe)

back to topic:
one nice thing about running your own wireharness is that you can route it for better looks. these cars come with wires EVERYWHERE from the factory. if you don't mind lenghtaning a few things the injector and top end sensor wires can all be run inbetween the runners and upper plenum. will give it a nice clean look. i have tucked my driverside wires, but tucking the passanger side ones it not realy feasable W/O removing the runners from the base. if i ever get around to replacing my dented runners (how the hell do you do that anyway?) i will tuck them all inside and give it a real clean look.

One question about the hijack topic.... wouldn't putting an unnecisarilly large TB on a MAP car actually cause it to run like crap? I know it doesn't really matter on a MAF sensor, since that is inline before the TB, so the same air goes by it irregardless of the size of the throttle.
