So I'm thinking of turning my old acura into a hornet racer for the summer. I have my camaro now so I have no use for the thing, that and it is pretty crappy, won't pass emmissions, I wouldn't get much for it. So I thought what the hell, it would be fun.
Has anybody ever done this before or have any advise.
Hornet racing basically is where you have a stock 4 cyl car, that runs has good brakes, no windows, has the doors chained shut, and is painted bright yellow and black (hornet racing). i might need some help getting some stuff together to get it race worthy or keep it that way so if anyone is interested or wants to come watch me make a fool of myself let me know.

What's type of racing is it?
Steve and I plan to take a Honda CRX down to the sand dunes in oregon at the end of this month. Free cars RULE! Hopefully 265/75r15s will fit with some trimming.
Wait, speaking of which, does anyone have any 15" wheels with a 4x100 bolt pattern? Standard honda/toyota/VW wheels. I'll take 'em off your hands for cheap. _________________

If there's serious bumping going on, I'd take a die grinder to the fender wells and cut them back a bit, Losing a tire mid race is no good.
BRING A HELMET!! AND SOME SORT OF SEATBELT REINFORCEMENT.
I'd reccomend removing all of the dash that you can so basically you're just petals, Shifter, Steering column, One seat. Tony had it right, save as much weight as you can.
(My friend Rob expressed an intrest in your car if is body is straight and it has a 5 speed...he has one with a dinged up body) _________________

Safety is a huge concern, I will likely put a harness in and it looks like gutting the interior is not allowed.
Chris-
The doors and fenderes are in good shape, the trany is shot (was a 5 speed but now is a 4 speed with no reverse 5th is dead) the hood is scrap as well as the front bumper and the rear isn't that great. If the roll bar rules allow it, it would suggest a NASCAR style door bar, just for saftey sake. This sounds like wheel/wheel racing. I would go for maxium protection for myself, if I was building it. With nascar styel door bars, and a roll cage, and 5points, you should be fairly safe. |

my guess is they will broadcast race info on their own frequency to alert drivers of wrecks. |
