Ported, polished, 3 angle, milled down guides, postive seals, screw in studs, z28 springs, rotators removed, and surfaces milled 0.010.. l98s! New covers to match. Hopefully the truck wont be disappointing next time.

Wow, in the bowls, you want to cut down the area where the valve slides through?

So which part is the valve seat? Do valve seats come out?

Wait, what, RED? Just cause they came off of mikes car doesn't mean they have to be RED Wink

Seats are still there Paul. and no they dont come out. Actually this is the first set of modern heads i've done for myself. So its the first set I havent had to install hardened exhaust seats in. And thats not RED! That be chevy orange for you people who are too young to remember what color real motors were painted. Razz

I was looking at my 416s today, I'd be afraid of taking too much off the intake ports before it would grind through the metal!

That looks good Brandon, gonna have to put the holley back on it now though.

BTW, WTF is up with the degree wheel, when I installed my cam last spring you said that I didn't need to degree it. Me thinks you in cahouts with the Red guys. Very Happy Laughing

I've never degreed one Rodney. This will be my first, and i'm just checkin it. Paul and I have the same cam, only mines on a 110 and his is 112? His peaked on the dyno @ 5600.. My motor peaked at 4400?? Should be higher. So I'm wondering if my cams too far advanced.

Well project missing power is complete! Almost... Very Happy Anyway, Mr Schultz and I spent a long day yesterday tearing apart the trucks motor and swappin on the new heads, degreeing the cam, and puttin on some 1.6 comp rollers. Finished about 9 PM. Noticeably different, truck continues to pull on up in the rpm's now, and seems to require less pedal for cruising. Seems very much smoother to me now, the vibration i've been fighting for years wasnt there last night. A weeks worth of driving should prove if thats coincidence or not though.

BTW Mike, just got down re-reading the directions on degreeing the cam. We were supposed to add the 2 values together then divide by 2, instead of subtracting. 215+3=218 / 2 = 109.. So the cam is in 7 degrees advanced instead of 4. That is part of why it peaked at 4400 and had so much torque way down low on the dyno. Here's the other part. Since the 215* and 3* measurements were made at 0.050 lift at the lifter, the difference between the 2 should be 0.050 duration of the intake lobe. 212* right? Well, that # would be perfect if this was an XE256 cam!!! Which it is not!!!! Evil or Very Mad The XE262 cam should be 218*!! If the measurement is correct that means i've got the same cam in both vehicles. But since this is a 350 instead of the 327 it'll actually act smaller!! Since the 327 peaked at 5250, that would totally explain the 350 peaking at 4400!!!(can't put too many exclamations!) I'm kinda pissed. I'm thinking that comp misboxed my cam. And since I didnt degree it, I never caught it till now.

Well, i'm debating puttin the holley back on now too, Though the edlbrock always runs good, i'm totally missing the throttle response(and the instant burnouts) the holley had. At least its an easy swap.

You guys thought the cloud of carbon at the dyno was bad?! You should see the buildup on my pistons! Shocked No wonder i've been having a dieseling problem. Huge thick layer of oil carbon built up. Appears to have been making it past my guide seals. We'll see if these positive seals clear up my oil consumption! Once we had the truck running i gave it about 3 cups of water induced orally Razz (via drippin it in the carb). Hopefully that loosed up some of the garbage. Tomorrow, i'll pick up a couple can's of seafoam and see if I can FOG out Skamokawa.

Guess I oughta go do something. Pics of the finished project forthcoming.

hehe - never poured water into an engine on purpose. Good project but sucks about the cam. The mesquite bar-b-qued rib-eyes were the highlight.

mmmmmmMMEEAat.

: burps mesquite smoke :

Thanks again Chef-Boyar-B!

So here's a pic of the old camelhumps and edlebrock covers. Both are 1964 vintage.

And this ones the completed motor.

Notice, as of 1/2 hour ago, there lives a holley under that air cleaner again. Back to instant burnouts and 2nd gear kickouts! As much as I hate em the holley definately puts down more power/torque then the edlebrock does, even tuned. Now if the power valve will hold up. Rolling Eyes

Couple of notes on the holley, I was having trouble with the throttle sticking. Turns out that the holes in the base gasket that came with my rebuild kit were probably almost 1/8" too small. This made a 1/16" ring sticking into the carb barrells which the throttle plates rubbed against. Nothing a razor blade can't fix, but something to watch for when you rebuild a carb. Also had to tack weld the throttle lever to the shaft, was starting to come loose a bit.

I'll have a 262 available shortly Wink

Glad you found some of the power... but with the 256 cam, is the cam in your engine STILL too far advanced making it seem yet ANOTHER step smaller?
