try this:
put battery hot directly to the pump (wires run along driverside floorboard) if it comes on you know its electrical. if it does not, pull the drivers side rear seat bottom (lift up on front of seat and you will see the bolt) and make sure the ground is good. then try to put hot to it again. if it still does not come on you know it's the pump.
more then likley its the pump. |

| yep, axle really has to come down, and yep, that's stock. You'll have to manuever around it... dont break it, or it'll cost a LOT to fill up your tank, and the ground, at the gas station. |

That'd be too easy
Tony and I had his old rear end out in 20 minutes (air tools cut time in half) From there, there should be two gas tank straps that you'll probably need some extensions for. Just make sure you disconnect things from around the fuel tank (this is the hard part cuz half of the things are impossible to see so you have to do it by feel), then drop the tank (use a jack if it's full, if it's empty (gallon or two, no more than) you should be able to bench press it (i'd still use a jack though).
Slowly lower it until it's to the point where you can easily get to the fuel lines connecting to the fuel pump. Take those off, and then grab a hammer and flathead screwdriver, take the collar off around the fuel pump, and voila! Fuel pump out.
Installation is reverse of removal (make sure to put the new base gasket around the new fuel pump too, gas stinks otherwise!) |

i always found the fuel lines easy to remove. the HARD part is getting the tank in and out. trying to do it full would be insanity. bite the bullet and put a syphon hose in it. last time i did not even get any gasoline in my mouth and i got it flowing on the first try
even empty the reinstallation of the tank is a two man job. even if the 2nd man is the kid from next door telling you which way the filler neck needs to go. buy him an ice cream.
and one more tip. NO MATTER HOW HARD it is getting the tank in and out, under NO CURCUMSTANCES bend those tank retainer straps. they never bent back to the right shape. |

Don't forget the hack saw to remove the exhaust system. |

| Rodney, thanks! I almost forgot... the exhaust will be in the way. You can take it off the cat and hangers from there - out, or use a sawzall and have a shop weld it back up (I would suggest the first way) |

| you should be able to figure out the way that the fingers hook into the "retainer blocks" (for lack of a better word coming to me ATM), just grab a long fat screwdriver (flathead) and a hammer and tap it away. Putting it back on, you'll probably need another person to push down on the center of the fuel pump (without breaking any plastic lines) so you can get the retaining ring into it's "retaining blocks" and locked into place. |

the retaining ring comes off by pounding the tabs that stick up in a counterclockwise motion. it is not that hard to get them off by yourself, but help makes it way easy.
also be sure you replace the strainer while you have the pump out. |
