|
|
bobby and i were talking today. my father has always told me to go easy on new break pads for the first hundred miles or so. make long gentle stops, no slamming on the brakes. he says that is how you "glaze the pads" and cause decresed effectivness.
bobby says almost the exact oposite. make many hard stops right off the bat (he had a whole complicated system "go to thirty and slam on the brakes until 5MPh and then slowly stop, and then count backwords from 1,053 and say tje word "blue" and then make a hard stop from 50MPH...." it was complicated and i allready forgot most of it.)
so which is right? a few hard stops or looong gentle slooow stops? any input is appreciated. _________________ 86' firebird (Junked in 2015). 88' GTA (sold in 2020).

Bobby is right here, you need to bed them, by getting them up to temp.
More info here:

Do note that with normal street use, you are going to undo the bedding process anyway, since you rarely get them up to proper temp anyway. |

WOW... awsome article. i have been completly in the dark on this
this bring up another question, where am i agoing to be able to get up to 60MPH and be able to slow down to 10MPH using 90% deceleration of brakes without pissing people off or getting rearended? |

| That is the hard part. Also be aware, that the bedding process will wear off, under normal daily driving conditions. |

| Really, bedding them is only going to last a short time. Truth be told, I don't know how long it will last. under stop and go traffic, I have a feeling it is going to wear it out pretty quick. |
