If you do this you should be able to get a floor mounted dimmer switch cheap and then just say you converted it. |

From your light switch, the yellow wire supplies 12V to your dimmer switch. From the dimmer switch, the tan wire is for your low beams and the light green wire is for high beam. You probobly want a 2 position toggle or rocker switch for this. Run the yellow wire to the center terminal and the other 2 to the outside terminals. The yellow wire is also the trigger for your headlight motors, so if you disconnect it, do it at the dimmer switch on the column. |

| You just need a dimmer switch? They're easy enough to change.. your's might even just be out of adjustment. It bolts on top of the ignition switch on the top side of the column, above where your feet would be. The holes in it are oval, loosen the bolts and slide it up towards the steering wheel.. see if it will click back and forth then. If not buy one at your favorite autoparts store. They're nothing special, unlike the wiper switch in these cars. |

oh, so it's near the bottom of the colum? i do no the part i move with my hand hits a "push rod" that goes further down the colum, i did not realise it was so far down. i'll look into that in the next couple of days. it would be cool if it was realy that easy.
al, thanks alot, if i do have to mount an external switch you just saved me like ten minutes of looking it up myself. how did you know that off hand? |

| I did a little digging myself, but I've played with those wires more than once while hooking up fog and driving lights. |

oh yeah. for those of you who do not know, als car is freaking insane. all that extra space a 3.1 leaves in the engine bay is taken up with gizmos. it looks like the engine room of the death star in there |

Not that many gizmos. A battery isolator for charging a second battery in the "glove box" in the rear, a plug in trickle charger for extended parking at home, and sirens for every alarm that has ever been on the car... oh yeah, and lots of bosch relays lights and other stuff. |
