Thats the thing guys. We'll probably be the only cars in our classes.. although there is usually an 80s or 90s vette or 2 in there to screw things up. So somebody from the crew is almost guaranteed a trophy. We're basically only competing against each other.. Didnt Bart even enter Slinky once? Laughing Hopefully the judges will be better this time. Last time they had the heads of the 2 main clubs judge everybody. They might know their early rods but didnt have a clue about anything after 1970.

i have already done a few things to make the GTA more show worthy. replaced the broken drivers side dorrsill yesterday. also removed and repllaced my passanger seat to retreave a ring my sister lost Rolling Eyes and detailed the interior while i was at it. hopefully by cows i'll have the antenna fixed and have the drivers doorhandle replaced with a shiny chrome one.

does anyone know how to get that black stuff off? my passanger side handle is chrome (prior owner) and my drivers side one is black. i think i might just replace it. i saw a buick with what appeared to be a chrome version of our doorhandles.

You want to keep the chrome ones? whaaaaaat?

I don't know if I want to tell you how to do that... Very Happy

Pretty much every GM from the 80's had our door handles. Monte's, caprice's, s10's...

Pick up a set from a black 4thgen and they'll bolt right on only without that divit on leading edge, and they'll be body colored.

Make sure you check for compatability first. GM had a lot of cars in the 80's with door handles that 'looked' like ours but the studs on the back had different spacing. Ask me how I know Wink

Because I picked one up at the parts store that looked EXACTLY like the ones on my Firebird. I didn't check to make sure of application. It was the same shape, color and length but the 'stud' on the back was in a slightly diff location and would not fit.

P.S. Brand new at Napa they run $22-$23 before any discounts.

Hey Tony, sorry to hear that you had some asshole mess up the antenna, I'm assuming it's on the GTA.......you can access the atenna thru the inner fender well. Pull the wheel off and carefully remove the plastic retainers and you can easily get at it. I had put that antenna in there in place of the broken power one that had originally lived there. No need to pull the fender off unless the moron messed up the top of the fender. Are you avoiding door dings parking it at school? I was always worried about that when ever I drove it anywhere. Parked in the back and took 2 spots. I'm sure I pissed off a lot of folks. Hope the hot rod is still running good for ya. I do miss it.
Later........Bob

i park under a parking lot light and against an adge so only one side is exposed. i am more afraid of the car being broken into or stolen then dinged. i always park in the first row in view of both the "campus security" office and in the row oposite the "campus saftey" chevy impalla. Smile

thanks for the tip on the antenna! i have been bummed about that all week. now all i need to do is tighten up the mount and bent the antenna back to original shape (or perhaps purchase a new one@napa)

so this car used to have a power antenna ?!?!? this whole time i thought i was special. there were only five 1988 GTAs made without a power antenna.. i thought this was one of them. sucky. the factory invoice i ordered from PHS does not show a power antenna. must be included in the Y84-GTA options package. Rolling Eyes

also the GTA was originaly shipped to a dealership in honolulu,HI. Shocked

You can put a power antenna in without pulling the fender as well. I had to replace mine a while back. No problemo. Just wanted to let you know because if it isn't the 'rare RPO' then you may prefer the power antenna as it only pops up when the radio is on (not cd/cassette/etc.)

actualy yeah. i would like to go power. so i had the inner fender out today and i don't see any concievable way to get at the antenna... i did however realise that the nut on the top tightens it. so it is fixed.

i also installed my new coil today. so far it has started every time. Very Happy
