alright guys, this is kind of a rant, kind of an opinion......so here it goes:

should i get rid of the thing, its got a whole list of things wrong with it, that im sure are pretty easy to fix, but i dont know how and i dont know how to do any of the work myself, and i dont know anyone in this area that can help me. i had a certain issue that i had to deal with at the begining of this year that some of you know about, that drained the account quite a bit so i cant really afford to pay the shop to fix it.

its my daily driver, i only drive 6 miles to my school every day and back and then days when i work, 6 miles the other way. that is it, i do not use the car in any other way, i do not cruse it, do not take it to a friends house, nada.

here is a pic for those that have not seen it:
http://www.freewebs.com/82transam/87transam.jpg

if i sell it, i know id be loosing a ton of money ive put in it, ive had the thing for a few years now, and had it all through high school...its kind of my trade mark around here....how often do you see a TA like that? uhh, never, except when ima coming!

and ive got a garage full of projects, with not enough time or money to finish them all anytime soon. i have a 2 car garage w/ this car in one stall and a stripped down shell in the other. if i sell this car, i can fit the mopar in the other side and actual work on that in the winter. if i end up selling it id probably buy like a used civic or something w/ good gas milage that i wouldnt give a crap about sitting outside in the freezing rain.

opinions? options? what do i do?
sorry, for the long rant on my problems, and thanks for reading

Are you going to happy driving a beater ass civic instead of your bird? (Just curious, when did you buy it? There was one for sale like that down here a few years ago). What kind of problems are you having?

If you don't know how to fix these things how can you rebuild another car?

Anytime you need help on your car, just call it a minigathering and get everyone over there. Smile

if it did't have ttops i'd take it off your hands Surprised

i say keep it. if nothing else park it outside in the rain if you realy need to work on a chrystler. or build a little tarp lean to on the side of you rgarage for it to stay dry. like a carport, only more trailer park Laughing

I'm trying to remember where I've seen your car....where in Seattle are you cruising around?

I understand your desire to get rid of it....but think it over. Winter time is the time when people with nice cars start getting depressed over their garage space and make the big mistake of selling something they love.

(you should see how many more classic cars I have at the lot right now)

I just sold a vette yesterday based on the same reasons...

Farshin,

I'm learning that its hard to jugle multiple projects at a time (especialy if you are kind of lazy, like me. Very Happy). There have actualy been a couple of times when I really considered selling my Camaro. What also gets me, is that I think about all the great times I have had in this car, all the hours myself and ALL of my friends have put into it, and the great people I have met because of this car. I also realised, that if I did sell it, I would lose so much money on the deal, that keeping it, even if I don't do much to it (I have gone thru times when I really don't feel like touching it). These cars are not yet to the point of being a high demand car, but you have to descide for yourself, if the small amount of money you will get from it, is worth trading off having it around.

(She has been thru so much with me now, she outlasted the girl that I thought I would marry, she has gotten me to work for 4 diffrent jobs now, and the reason I made all my friends in the crew. I don't think I could bring myself to even think about trading her now!)

arg, i just typed up a long reply and then i deleted it...grr.

anyways, iansane:
the car was purchased about 3 years ago down in kent, so it was probably the same one.
as far as my other car, there are tons of mopar guys up here that have been helping me out do some stuff, and my friends the smith brothers www.smithbrosrestorations.com will be doing all the metal/body stuff along w/ some other things on that car.
i made a post a while back in the tech section about some of my current problems, such as the alt guage going crazy and the lights flickering, one of the cylinders not getting enough spark and thus allowing gas to mix w/ the oil. also, guy that works on the car said the coolant is getting pretty scaly?? and the radiator needs to be changed. the rear end is leaking real bad, and the seal cannot be changed beacuse of, uhh, something like if you open it up the washers or whatever that are in there will get messed up, and its too worn out to fix or something...i have a diagram here. also need new belts and some other little things. i never have really had anyone teach me anything about anything, and i come from a family that could care less about old cars and fixing them up. i have learned alot myself through books/web sites/you guys, but i dont really have any hands on teaching of anything.
good idea about a minigathering type thing, im up for one whenever.....ill supply the food and drinks too!!!!

mrpopo573: i live in north seattle, around the university of washington, i go up to capital hill for school but other then that i dont really go outside of that area, w/ the TA.

dewey:
your points are very valid, and that is why i havent sold the 82 TA i have, im not giong to get what i have into it back if sold....and not to mention if i want one later down the road, im probably not going to find one w/ all the options and whatnot i want (this is a fully optioned ou 82 Trans Am, w/ the PMD seats, AC, turbocast wheels, etc.)
same goes w/ the 87 i guess. the problem w/ having a car like that as a daily driver, and not as a project is, that there is aways the tempation to do something to it to make it better or whatever, well that is money that is being taken away from the actual 'project' i have that i am working on.
which was my reasoning, getting a car that i could care less about, that is reliable and just drive the thing and put the money i have into the other car.
im still considering having that LS1 swap done on the car, what was the name of the place down there that does swaps like that, mcgees?
that would give me better gas milage, make it more fun to drive...its real real slow right now.
if i sell it then there is the problem of what car will i drive? id need to go take the money i get for this and buy something else, probably wont have enough to get a good reliable daily driver so id have to throw a whole ton more money into that.
i dunno...

Was the car originally maroon (flame red metallic)? Had a dent in the top of one of the fenders from some wood falling on it?

As for the gathering, figured out what project you want to tackle, set up a time a week (preferably two or more) in advance and I'll take a day off to come out and help ya. I know it sucks working on a car you don't know much about, especially with how cold and wet it's getting.
