This is the shifter my dad and i made. i would have better angles if our stupid camara was working right. I would have a pic of the top cause it has T56 stamped through the middle of the top. if i can get the camara to work right i will take a pic of the shifter when in a forward gear 1,3, or 5 and one in a back gear 2,4, or 6 from the same spot to show the through.
oh ya the little t handle is my reverse lockout activation switch.

Looks like someone stabbed a Bowie knife through the shifter hole! Sweet!

Here is a pic in a back and a forward gear to show the throw of my shifter. before we modified the bottom half the shifter would almost hit the console and the cd player.

That is pretty dope. Like knife comment... I totally agree, looks rad.

How did you create the reverse lockout... Is there a kit, or how do you go about putting one together?

There is no reverse lock out, unless it's in the T5 itself. The only thing manuals in our cars have is a neutral saftey switch.

Hrmm

I still really like the audi/vw/porsche design. Where you must push down on the shifter to get into first

I'm obviously not cheezy but mine's setup so that the 'noid is activated when I hit the brakes.

Are vw push down for first or push down for reverse? I just remember pushing for reverse because the first time I drove one it took my 25 minutes to back out of the garage bay.

I'm locked out unless I use both hands. Very Happy I thought about connecting to the brake but now I think I'm going to wire it into the ECM using an unused output (AIR, EGR or A/C) and have it activate whenever the car is stopped. That's how the 4th gens do it.
